Remove Quote Nesting?

So, I've heard some complaints regarding the notification system and quotes (and also quotes from specific users, but that's a separate issue that I still need to look into). Basically: if you get roped into a quote chain, you will get an alert for each quote afterward, even if your quote doesn't show up in the post.

This is caused by a css styling that only allows 3 levels of quotes, but actually logs all of them in the system. SMF has an on and off switch with quote nesting and does not easily allow 1 or 2 or 3 levels, so my question to you is: should quote nesting be disabled completely, in favor of direct quoting, where you will only get notifications when someone directly quotes you?

You look at who they're quoting if we have just one quote instead of the quote nests.

I think you explained to me before why it couldn't be done, but subthreads would be far better. But yeah, I think you should only get a notification when someone is directly quoting you.

I turned it on when it was first introduced, got a load of notifications, panicked a little, turned them off.
Still, I rarely miss someone replying to me.

Make it so that anything past the 3rd level of quotes isn't even recorded. That way when you're responding to a longer quote chain, you don't have to scroll down forever to get to the bottom.

Bungie did that on b.old and it worked well, but it was 5 levels instead.

I've never needed notifications anyway, even on Bungie they were just a nice thing that would tell me if my posts were liked.
