Tap gentle just to get the tip in, that way it won't be as loose and giggly when you hit it hard

When framing walls, after a quick tap to set the nail, I'd just take two good whacks to sink a 16d nail.
When the time comes for finesse though, that tiny little finishing brad needs a more gentle approach before being ended with a nice firm tap from a nail set.
Tacking a roof is literally a one swing job.

I built a shoe shelf for Al Baghdadi today. Just a box frame with two slot shelves. I'm feeling pretty fucking manly cause it was from just plywood and nails. Gonna stain and varnish it tomorrow.

When I'm starting the nail I tap it, but once it's in I start pounding it like a read headed step child.
