Is Karma real?

I believe the universe gives you whatever you put out

I can take advantage of so many people/things thanks to my looks social status money influence, all without any obvious repercussions. However I don't because it makes me feel icky and also I notice when I give out lots of positivity and love I tend to receive more of it, likewise with negativity/hate/manipulation.

Why is that person a piece of shit for wanting a reward to stay good? Are they more or less of a piece of shit than people who purposely do bad things?

You do a good act because it's good. That's what makes you good. If you're only doing good things with the expectation of getting something from it, then it's not altruism - it's a trade.

there are millions of good people living on the streets right now, and a lot of them just die—meanwhile, some of the most morally repugnant people you could ever meet are billionaires, and they live out their whole lives as such

where's the karma there

it's always nice when people get what they deserve, but it simply doesn't always happen

Karma is more the consequence of your action than it is some divine force serving justice. Everything you do affects the world around you ergo you must experience the effects of your actions. If you create suffering then you will inevitably suffer more.

The meaning of it has been warped in the west to be some mystical thing that punishes people for having ill will or harming others.

Really it's just action and reaction interpreted in a more spiritual sense; the idea that you must have good karma (which is to live and act in a way that minimizes the suffering you create) to achieve freedom from suffering.

You can't look at a person's current existence and draw a conclusion about the state of their karma. Karma encompasses all of their past and future existences. A homeless beggar living in squalor may be in that state because he was a morally repugnant billionaire previously.

Of course, that's all metaphysical bullshit. No, karma isn't real and if it was, the deterministic nature of the universe would make it uniquely cruel relative to other systems of belief.
