SO you may remember that I got a new case fan for my PC the other day= http://sep7agon.net/index.php?topic=22267.msg428404#msg428404

Today I decided to install it. Front plate pops off, a little bit of trouble with it but not difficult. Old fan gets disconnected and unscrewed.

I take the new fan in my hand, and notice that the PWM cable is too short to reach the connector on the motherboard.

"Oh well" I think. "It seems I require a extension cable"

I put my old fan back and connect it. I start to look for other places to put the new fan in my case until I can get an extension cable, because why not.

Most of the fan positions are out of reach as well.

It would fit on the top, though. I try to put these little rubber feet thingies trough the screw holes, so that I can then put them through the corresponding holes on the fan.

The damn RAM stick is in the way for that.

I don't feel like trying it with the screws instead, I say "fuck it, I'll get an extension cable later".

I begin to pack all of the stuff that came with the fan back into the box.

And then i see it.

IT DID COME WITH AN EXTENSION CABLE.

I just didn't look hard enough for it.

Now it's all done though, and my PC sounds unnaturally quiet compared to what I'm used to.

The master race gets shreked again.

Says the Quake guy.

Moral of the story: Always empty and disassemble your boxes before starting any project.

I did, I just didn't look down to see the cable.
