Rejoice in your newfound job prospects!

It sucks though, not being able to do what you enjoy and have a chance at a job at the end of it <.<
So congrats and commiserations in equal measure.

Yeah, I'd major in History if I could. Favorite subject by far.

Going into biochem instead

for the 0.000001 users here who are disappointed in me, because i've always sticked to my guns for so long, i figured two things

1. i could already fucking teach english if i wanted to
2. i don't have to take out $50k worth in loans just to learn to write--when i already can write

so i figured i'd start honing a skill of mine that'll actually potentially get me a job down the line

a miserable and cunty job that i will hate, but there is no job in the universe that i want to do
so i just have to suck it up

so there you go

if college was free, which it FUCKING should be, i would still be an english major
but i don't want to be in crippling debt for the rest of my life--i just don't

"Ornate chandeliers suspended from a vaulted ceiling lit the spacious chamber; Jack tilted his gaze overhead and noticed how far away they were.  His thoughts wove around those bright lights, like a dance of ether masses spiraling in precious unison. Why must we try to clutch desperately for the mere threads of this world when we can clasp onto a tapestry of untold magnificence beyond this plane of existence?"
Maybe you could get into game development with a bachelor's in computer science?

the point of college is to learn. to study things that interest you and will stimulate your creativity and intellect.

maybe learning more about it will in turn make you more passionate, and therefore make it a rewarding experience. there are certainly worse things to study in this day and age.

No, it's not. You can learn for free at a library. The whole idea of college was to train people for careers that are more involved than simplistic ones. It's essentially the evolution of vocational training.

i like designing shit, and i've always sort of wanted to learn to program

i know i have the chops for it, but i'm not sure if i'll have the patience for it, which is the scary thing

also i suck at math, so i'm gonna have to start out on the very bottom rung of math courses, but
w/e

i like math--the only thing that was deterring me in HS was apathy, and i can't afford to be apathetic anymore

It baffles me that people would rather learn something and be miserable than learn something they enjoy.  You can make a money arguments all you want, but I don't accept that as a valid excuse.

colleges were originally just groups of people living under a common set of rules. you're putting a modern connotation on a centuries-old practice of fellowship and intellectual pursuits. colleges have traditionally been hubs for academics to perform research and improve the overall knowledge base for all disciplines. naturally, the content offered in college level courses is more specialized than basic schooling, but that doesnt mean its necessarily intended only to snag careers.

its quite sad that people like you actually think that colleges exist only to provide people with degrees for careers.

Yeah, I'd major in History if I could. Favorite subject by far.

Going into biochem instead
Such a crying shame.

I graduated high school with merits attached to my diploma for social studies, and I then ended up going into college for business administrations.

If more people could do what they love, the world just may be a better place.

Oh, cool.

It's a pretty damn challenging subject, and a lot of patience is required, but I find it really interesting. In my (short) experience programming is both the most frustrating and also the most satisfying thing to do.

but they can. they just refuse to because they believe what others say about certain fields not yielding good careers.
