IIRC, Imperial Knights duty was preventing the Emperor from falling to the dark side and still rejected the dark side. They were just the Jedi Order equivalent to the Fel Empire really. Gray Jedi used both the light and dark side without succumbing to the dark side; they're ultimately the best out of any group
