I've only seen the first five episodes, I didn't really feel like watching a rehashed, lower quality version of the movies so I stopped. Does it improve later on? Is there much of a difference to the BoG and RoF movies?

Thanks. I was putting it off because I heard it was just a retread of battle of gods and resurection of Freezie pop

Just skip those and watch the movies. Episode 1 and 2 are nice though because slice of life moments. And some moments after the Resurrection of Frisbee. But yeah, start with the Champa Saga.

The Battle of Gods saga is ok (I like the fight with SSG Goku and Beerus), the Resurrection F saga doesn't do anything interesting and Universe 6 looks promising with the first episode of that saga
