Forgiveness

Unrelated to a previous thread, the title is just similar because reasons.

Stacking shelves gives you a lot of time to think and one of the things that came to mind today was the topic of forgiveness.

Specifically, how far does someone have to go that you would never forgive their actions?
A way to look at that is what is the worst thing someone has done to you, that you subsequently forgave?

As a concept, do you think that you should forgive people for their actions even if they cause great harm?

Just some light thinking on a thursday night <.<

Weird, you think about similar things when you're riding forklifts for a year. You start to reflect on things you've done and if you would forgive someone who's done the same.

Then you crash into a wall. Literally.

typically a day, i can get over pretty much anything once i've slept on it. the only things i wouldn't forgive are serious stuff like stealing from me, consistently lying talking behind my back etc

I've asked the same question before on Coup, but got lame-ass answers.

Wrote a short story based around the question, but it was lost.

Basically, I don't really know. I tend to be a very forgiving person, believe it or not.

Anyway, Caesar (Gaius Julius, not to be confused with Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus, or Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) after his conquest and maturing in Gaul made it a point to offer clemency to those who would ask for it.
We should all try to be a little like Caesar... just, without attempting massive political reforms that piss off the Bourgeoisie to the point where they want to murder you.

I easily retain grudges. I'm not very forgiving.

That point is usually reached when someone proves themselves to be an influential idiot (in the sense that they could understand something but don't to protect their opinions whilst suppressing mine).
It's something I'm trying to work on because it bleeds over into other areas and isn't beneficial on a personal level..

I can forgive anything if the person truly is sorry. Except murder. I would never forgive that. Manslaughter sure, but never a premeditated murder. Not even attempted murder.

Try to forgive, but never forget. Don't let previous transgressions affect your relationship with someone, but don't ignore them completely. Just because you've forgiven somebody for causing you harm doesn't change the fact that they've caused you harm.

I'm more or less incapable of holding a grudge. Of course nothing extreme enough has happened to test that.

I'm not particular about holding a grudge. But I have a simple, black and white law, and it works well.

I'm always easy going with people. But if somebody intentionally steps on me, or hurts me, in full well knowing what they're doing, then I will never trust them again.

I won't attack them. I won't cross the street to avoid them. I won't do anything to hurt them or upset them. But they will always be an acquaintence to me at that point.

This law works because of one simple rule that holds true.

If it can happen once, it can and will happen again. I'm always open, always try to be friendly, and if somebody ever abuses that, then that's it. They mean nothing to me. I'd be out of my fucking mind to ever trust them in full capacity again.

And the more I watch people, the more my little rule of thumb holds true.

I'm easy when it comes to forgiveness but that doesn't mean I forget what happened. You have to be pretty freaking unreasonable and have done things more than once for me to reach the point where I decide that I have no reason to take you seriously anymore. Sometimes I forgive way too easily and it gets me in trouble, but I have issues when it comes to holding grudges. It's draining, and I don't want to carry around that negative energy.

Sincerity is also important.

Its hard for me to hold grudges, so unless something extreme happens, like murdering a family member, I won't be holding any grudges.

I dunno man, the worst thing somebody's ever actually done to me was spread shit about me that somehow made people at school and on the bus avoid me like the plague, but even that's just petty drama, and I've since stopped caring.

I tend to unintentionally forgive people for things. I'll be mad at someone and after a day, at the latest, I'll end up forgetting about it.
