Recent seasons have been very well written ever since they got a new showrunner. First few seasons ranged from meh to terrible.

I like things that look at how people survive and change after an apocalypse as opposed to take drugs kill a zombie.

The latter seasons of the Walking Dead (and future ones) and the book world war z focus much more heavily on how groups of survivors react to the plague - and each other. Generic zombies as The Enemy (L4D, Deadrising, 28 Days and so forth) are very much boring and meh-tier.

Granted, I enjoyed 28 days as a film but I wouldn't watch it again.

I can kind of understand if you only watch the first couple episodes of the serirs. They weren't anything to write home about. It's been the more recent series' that make thw show stand out.

Zombie films used to be good for the body count, now it's just bleh.

Even the games have moved away from that to make shitty survival horror attempts with runners, mutants and screamers etc.

Prototype 1 had it best, that's what the zombie apocalypse is all about. Buckets of gore, killing by the thousands and lots of e.e
