.999 repeating does not equal 1
Just because we do math in a flawed base (base10) does not mean that you can take a value and claim that it equals a completely different value.

Simply put, 1/3 does not equal .333 repeating.

Try the same logic you have applied here in base12.
You'll find yourself in a very different situation.

Uh, yeah it does. Every 3 you add to the end gets you closer and closer to 1/3. It's true that it would never equal 1/3 if you were to stop the sequence at any finite point, but the expression is 0.333... repeating to infinity, which will and does equal 1/3.
