Wanted to make another post while I was near a place connected to the internet but I don't have my work stored in transit with me. I guess I could talk about it before I post it next time. I don't know about the other people who post in here, but it's only over the last several years that I've used my artwork to study myself and see things I didn't see inside myself before. And it's only recently in the last year that it's helped me cope and open up to facing the pain of having lost the only person I ever met in my life who I could say that I loved, and whom loved me back.

I enjoy looking backwards through the work posted in this thread, but I guess I'd just like to pose a question for any art minded person here. Has your own artwork helped you along in your life?

My greatest passion in life is to create. Visual art, and eventually stories as well. That passion is a major contributing factor to my will to live, but unfortunately my chronic health problems significantly impact my drive to practice it and create art like I want to. I haven't given up on the dream yet, however.

I wouldn't tell you to give up on that dream either. If you can't imagine going through life without doing something you love to do then always stick with it. Maybe with all this corona shit going on you'll get some downtime?

While I'm on my day off I may as well post some of my work. Some of it has great personal significance to me, and some of it was just practice.

I do as well. I usually listen to music as I work and zone out. So when I come back up from finished work, I'm usually in awe of what I've made, especially if I've nailed the colour and light I wanted to achieve. I'll end up looking over my work for a while and just studying what I've made. This one is no exception. The work I put into the shadow and lighting always catches my eyes, apart from the morbid nature of the content.

Heres some WIP shots of my uni final project. Was supposed to be finished by now but Corona destroyed my work output so I have an extension on my deadline. Currently sits at 60-70fps in Unreal Engine.

Huh? I wouldn't be posting it here if it wasn't.

It took a long time, too. I had to do four layers of glaze for every color you see there, and the little clay balls on the inside were beyond tedious. Probably the most fun I had was carving. Looking back, I think I got a little sloppy with some of the glaze, and some colors didn't come out the way I wanted. But people seem to like and I'm happy with it overall, so it's a source of personal pride for me.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Is it obvious yet that I keep hesitating to start practicing bodies?
Every master was once an apprentice. Don't give power to negative thought and let the shadow of the task dwarf the actual task: struggle gives over to strength, and tackling issues will preserve comfort better than putting them off. You have practiced this aspect of your craft to (from my perspective) your satisfaction. Now it's time to practice more outside of that!

Just do it. Start with rough sketchy shapes, and don't worry about refining the image. It's fine if it looks like complete shit.
Just remember, loose and sketchy. Using basic shapes can help a lot too.
It's not actually that I'm too worried about the sketches being shitty. I can draw bodies decently well as long as I have a reference (obviously still nowhere near perfect). It's just that the task of practicing new things in general seems really tedious and tbh depression is really screwing with my motivation to do anything productive, but that's how it goes I guess.

I'm actually going to try to suck it up and commit to drawing at least one full body pose a day. Hopefully other circumstances won't wreck my determination as they have been for a while now.

I may have a workaround for the hitch up. Don't think of it as practice. I'll tell you why.

I've posted a few bits of my work here, and if you've seen them, you may be surprised to know that I personally can't draw for shit, moderate at best. My work is the result of over a decade of experimentation and combining all of my favorite digital mediums together into one piece. I use 3d rendering programs and models, stitched real world photography, and a few custom scripts and brushes I made to distort and recombine all of my images together into one thing. It's all actually a very big process when I get going. Imagine what it was like for me when I didn't know anything and I was teaching myself how to do all of this for the first time.

I learned how to do all of this through practice, of course, but I didn't view it as practice. To me, I wanted to nail the imagery I imagined. Every time I made a new image, it was my chance to push my abilities and knowledge further and get one step closer to achieving my desired result. I think if you start to view it as simply practice, you add rigormoral to the process, which sucks the fun out of what you do. Of course, art is a balance between rigor and fun. When you work, don't think too much of the technical details. Just focus on doing. Making something come alive and captivating. You'll learn as you work anyway.

Unfortunately my current goal is to learn to draw human anatomy which is basically entirely practice. I don't really plan on doing any fully composed character art until I've progressed more. I've got a ton of ideas to put to paper (or digital canvas) but they're all on hold right now until I have achieved the skill required to execute them how I envision. A little bit of practice everyday isn't as enjoyable as drawing things I am comfortable with but I can handle that much so long as I can just maintain the motivation to draw period. That's my biggest issue, honestly. For a while now I've felt like doing virtually nothing. Not just art. I haven't practiced just about all of my hobbies for months. The only thing I've really been doing lately is sleeping, lurking on forums, and watching crap on YouTube.

Too much of that good shit turns sour. You've gotta open up the windows and let some fresh air in so to speak. The death of anybody artistically inclined is stagnation, whether it be through physical patterns or mental ones. Rock the boat a bit and drag your corpse out of bed, go see something new outside.

The phazon suit figurine isn’t actually available for purchase in Ireland unless you want to pay an insane amount of customs for the figure by paying for it on Amazon US so I decided to try my hand at recreating the suit out of my old paints and brushes by using the varia model as a base and then painting over it. Still a WIP obviously as I’m missing the red accents and visor but I’ll probably finish that sometime later.

Finished product + a poorly done venom figure I decided to give a makeover with a little bit of inspiration from Spider-Man 2099.

I decided to go with red for the visor because I always thought the visor being orange while the rest being red was fucking stupid and made no sense for the colour scheme. Paint became too thick at the breastplate which made it pretty much impossible to do the small red lining without smudging the ever living shit out of the breastplate. Other than that I think it turned out okay
