Since we all probably watch different anime, I think it's called that we share the ones we like the most! Those who spoke with me before probably know this suggestion, but I would suggest any hardcore sci-fi fan to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

It features the war between a galactic empire and a free republic. The details about the main characters go on, and on, introducing many secondary characters who share their own thoughts and views with others. It touches many subjects, and it is based on a novel. Featuring many things from more hardcore sci-fi, such as big battles, politics, religion, and all the wonders of space playing into a mix. Of course, with plenty of classical music to go with each occasion; making it quite enjoyable.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Note: Any derail attempts will be outright deleted.

Arséne Lupin III

Spoiler
The Castle of Cagliostro follows gentleman thief Arsène Lupin III, who successfully robs a casino - only to find the money to be counterfeit. He heads to the tiny country of Cagliostro, the rumoured source of the bills, and attempts to save the runaway Clarisse from the Count Cagliostro's men. Lupin enlists his associates, Jigen and Goemon, and sends his calling card to the Count to get Inspector Zenigata, his longtime nemesis, to the castle. After becoming trapped in dungeon under the castle, Lupin and Zenigata form a pact to escape and foil the Count's counterfeit operation and save Clarisse from her forced marriage to the Count.

Spoiler
I slapped that from the wiki, it's been a while since I've seen it. There's a older version.

That one is a timeless classic! I also read some of the manga. Those were funny as well. Miyazaki was also involved in one of the movies if I recall...

Yeah, his movie is the one I saw. I vaguely remember it, but I do know for a fact it had really funny parts and it's a great film.

The series wasn't also bad, and some of the films are entertaining. I have a hard time finding the Conan Edogawa v.s. Arsene Lupin III movie though.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
Since I just watched it again last night, I'm gonna tell you all to go watch my favorite anime film, a psychological police drama with a wonderfully constructed alternate-history setting and lots of visual symbolism from 1999, Jin-Roh: the Wolf Brigade.
Spoiler
Y'all expected some moe shit, didn't ya? There's none of that here, just German gun porn.
Spoiler

from MAL: After witnessing the suicide bombing of a terrorist girl, Constable Kazuki Fuse becomes haunted by her image, and is forced to undergo retraining for his position in the Capital Police's Special Unit. However, unknown to him, he becomes a key player in a dispute between Capital and Local Police forces, as he finds himself increasingly involved with the sister of the very girl he saw die.

That's amazing, I didn't know that was possible.

An OVA so that I don't give away too much:
YouTube

I recommend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood as an anime that one should watch if the designated interest  that one might search for falls into the categories of: comedy, action, and a decent plot.
  ???
What makes it different:
It's basically an anime where people trained in alchemy are able to manipulate almost anything as long as something of equal value is given. An example of this would be to move metal to the right, in where the metal would have to reduce its position on the left in order to move to the right; or for the metal to be thinned out in order for the goal to be reached.

 :o
Plot: Two boys are searching for a powerful item to use for themselves. It's not for money or anything that they don't own, but for finding something that they have lost.

Background info: It is set in an alternate world during late 1800s-1970 at least. It's in a place similar to Nazi Germany with a fuhrer, but not the same kind of discrimination and such.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Youre missing out if you havent seen Metropolis. One of the few animes to genuinely make me sad.

Blast of Tempest
(Drama, Fantasy, Mystery)
Spoiler
Blast of Tempest is the story of two teenagers as they try to discover the killer of one boy's sister.
In attempting to do so, they find themselves in the middle of a conflict amoung a clan of mages

The sorty iteslf takes heavy inspirartion from Shakespear, mainly Hamlet and The Tempest.

It's quite dialogue heavy at parts with wordplay and sophistry being a key feature.
Along with revenge being the theme of the story.

The synopsis:
Spoiler
The Kusaribe family is a family of sorcerers under the protection of the "Tree of Origins". Their princess, Hakaze Kusaribe, was the greatest sorceress of their family. But Samon Kusaribe, a member of their family seeking to resurrect the "Tree of World's End", stuffs her into a barrel and banishes her to a deserted island.
From the deserted island, she sends a message out to sea, which is picked up by Mahiro Fuwa, a young boy who's sworn vengeance upon the criminal who killed his little sister. Mahiro agrees to help Hakaze under the condition that she find Aika's killer with her magic. But once Mahiro's best friend is rescued from danger, he too gets dragged into this tale of revenge.

The Devil is a Part-Timer
(Comedy, Fantasy)
Spoiler
I think the summary speaks for itself:
Spoiler
Demon King Satan is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by the hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As "conquering the world" are the only skills the Demon King possesses—and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation—he must work to pay for his living expenses!

I'm not quite sure how to talk about this, it's only 12 episodes long and it doesn't beat around the bush like most other comedies.
It has a clear plot and the characters strive to complete their goals as soon as the show starts.

Unlike most comedy anime, it doesn't fall into the trap of trying to be funny all the time, the story opens up the humour, but isn't controlled by it.
Watching the ultimate evil become a diligent worker in MgRonalds and try to fit into everyday life somehow still manages to be serious.

Spoiler

I could do more, but for now these two will do.
Seeing as i keep being asked to get up and do things, something doesn't want me to post this :/

"Ornate chandeliers suspended from a vaulted ceiling lit the spacious chamber; Jack tilted his gaze overhead and noticed how far away they were.  His thoughts wove around those bright lights, like a dance of ether masses spiraling in precious unison. Why must we try to clutch desperately for the mere threads of this world when we can clasp onto a tapestry of untold magnificence beyond this plane of existence?"

I could never recommend something that I personally find to be... you know, one of the worst mediums of entertainment ever. If anything, I recommend Kill la Kill, just so you can see just how bad anime can really be.

And if you end up enjoying that show, please mute me.

So?

It being a parody is supposed to make it all okay?

Your arguement is "it's shit because it shows what's bad in the medium".
When the whole point of the show is to do just that.

Usually one would find the revulsion in the content being parodied, not the parody itself. I'm not saying it's all good because it's a parody, but I'd just say that it's not as clear cut >.>

it's a message that didn't need to be sent
we know why anime is bad, we don't need that show to teach us why

just like you don't need to kill someone to show that killing people is bad

Almost always, with moderation
Mushishi

Its a bit slow and episodic so even if you don't watch all the episodes, you can still get something out of it. Its a nice anime to watch if you have some free time.

From HB:

They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi". Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. Ginko is a "Mushi-shi" who travels around to investigate and find out more about the "Mushi". In the process, he also lends a helping hand to people who face problems with supernatural occurances which may be related to the "Mushi".

Usually the dubbed versions of Yu-Gi-Oh and the ones outside of Japan tend to hide certain things that happen in the original show. Where the original anime itself which later inspired the card game, had in the manga been only briefly referenced. In the manga Yami is basically someone who plays some "dark games" and the loser, in fact, dies by losing their soul. Certainly the anime took a more bright road for story development, as the manga did towards the last parts.
