[Aladdin] Where was Ali Ababwa the prince of?Did Genie magic a country into existence, insert him into some royal family, or was it all just an elaborate show? Genies always seem to actually grant wishes, so he must be a prince of something.
That's something that always bothered me. Aladdin specifically wished to be made a Prince - not "look like", the real thing. So why does the Genie keep bothering him to "Tell her the TRUTH!" when Ali really is a prince? And if he isn't, why didn't the Genie make him one? This is all on the blue guy.
I'm trying to figure out what year Aladdin is set in No cars, guards use swords... but the Genie turns into what looks like a german submarine
oh boy it's almost as if these things don't matter cos it's a cartoon

When he was alive was when most of the cartoons were made, and there were a lot of visual references to Hitler and Nazis, as well as a lot of other racist portrayals of different races. One that comes to mind is the beginning of Dumbo where the black workers building the circus in the rain are portrayed as these large almost gorilla like figures with big lips and small eyes.So no, I wouldn't call Disney a great company and a lot of their work is highly overrated, to the point where the stuff I just mentioned is overlooked or outright ignored because of their "classic" status or that "it was a different time".

Funny how the most appropriate response to this comment comes from that absolute dumpster fire of a movie. Quote from: Fedorekd on July 15, 2018, 02:58:04 PMbut they did put out one of the best star wars films last year
Uhh, I thought it was pretty great after the first half.
Visuals were nice, great camera work, unfortunately that's all I can say about it positively. Oh and Kylo did literally nothing wrong, not even fucking memeing here. Quote from: Dietrich Six on July 15, 2018, 05:45:50 PMUhh, I thought it was pretty great after the first half.
Kylo and Rey's dynamic is the best part of the film
It was good up until the end, I hope it's salvaged in Episode IX but seeing how fucking JJ Abrams is now behind that I doubt it. What made it good is that they were good foils to each other and brought Rey off her Mary Sue pedestal a little ("You're nothing, you come from nothing, your parents sold you off when you were little"). However, they threw it all out the window at the end; apparently it's wrong to learn hard truths and not glue yourself to the past among other things. Completely vilifying him and making him out to be 100% in the wrong/the bad guy throws away his humanity and what makes us relate to him as a character, what makes us LIKE him, because he did a damn good job of that for the entirety of the film; he was the only character that did that. He's just that dumb evil Sith we can't relate to now, they took away the moral grey from him and her, throwing their dynamic out the window.
