Update on the attacks in France--looks like the European media is fighting back

The French police are converging on the suspects after they supposedly robbed a service station in the north of France for fuel and food.

On top of this, the Irish media is being threatened with legal action by a Muslim scholar if they reprint the cartoons in question. And a Muslim politician from India has offered the attackers $8 million.

Despite this, Charlie Hebdo is going forward with their issue next week--printing more than double their usual circulation. And a German satirical magazine has said "If you shoot at satirists, you only make our work more relevant" and they put a satirical notice on their website telling the terrorists when to come and get them.

Also, a Danish newspaper, Berlingske, is going ahead with printing the cartoons. But the best part? So is Jyllands-Posten, the Danish publication that saw its cartoons illicit a response of extreme violence from protesting Muslims way back in 2005.

I hope the French police find them, and I hope they put up a fight. I want to see them die.

I'm unbelievably proud of Jyllands-Posten, after all the bullshit they went through in 2005. If we can say one thing about these attacks, it's that the victims didn't die in vain.

The thing that bothers me is you see the American news media reporting abut this and showing some of the magazine covers and cartoons they did, but they're being censored. That defeats the whole point! If you're censoring these cartoons, you're letting the terrorists win!

I wonder if they're just censoring the gory parts. A lot of the cartoons were fairly violent (though I agree they should be published in full).

Because I internet all day, I saw a lot of the comics online, before a bunch were shown on tv. A lot of the ones that were censored weren't even gory ones, from what I could make out of the overall colors, shapes, etc.

Second off - At this point, I don't know what Muslim leaders could do to make you happy. They constantly issue statements denouncing these attacks, saying it does not represent the entirety of the Muslim people, etc - these statements include remarks from top Western allies, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt. Short of them getting involved in conflicts like Syria, where they cannot, they are doing what they can. You constantly ignore that in anything, including your OP, and only cite examples of other extremist Muslims supporting the attackers.

Yes, there are a lot of shitty Islamist fundamentalists. We know you don't like it.

You're missing the point. I wasn't claiming that the murderers in this instance are ISIS-supporters. I was saying it's so ridiculously easy to denounce violence that some of the worst groups in existence do it to each other.

I'm happy that they've issued these statements, of course I am. . . It's just not going to do anything especially worthwhile. It'd be like giving Putin a hug because he's also denounced the attack; I'm not under any illusions that the fundamentalists in my own country are going to disappear and we're going to link arms and sing kumbaya, just because of these denouncements.

EDIT: I really don't care if Saudi Arabia denounces this attack by the way. I'll care when they stop cutting off thieves hands and forcing women to veil themselves. I'll care when Saudi Arabia isn't a fucking barbaric shit-hole.

Proud folks the french are. Good to see them standing up too. Not with riots or misdirected attacks on the muslim community either, but the peaceful kind that still manages to get "fuck you" out nice and clear. I like that. The response from other artists is fantastic.

Essentially, it's a case of "you'll have to kill all of us to shut us up."

Good on those folks.

The problem is, I don't think I've rarely see a terrorist attack covered by you that includes a "Aside from protests by the nation, these Muslim nations and leaders from across the globe also denounced it" - it is constantly the same "X supports the attacks, Y supports the attackers."

Simply posting the bad does nothing to help. If you want to simply do so, that's in your right. But perhaps try to show both sides instead of just the bad.

I think he means the Imams and other Muslim leaders should be censoring hate speech in their own mosques, not governmental intrusion.
