There's an election, or rather, three elections, going on. There's the election for the parliament, one for each county, and one for each municipality.

I believe the voting has just finished, so now the votes are being counted.

These elections are held every four years, so this is my first time voting in it. I also voted in the EU election earlier this year.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
How do the national, county and municipal election differ?

Who will you vote for?

How did you vote for the EP?

Are all the candidates communists?
Some are. They're not very popular though.

There's also socialists, social democrats, environmentalists, centers, moderates, Christian democrats, nationalists, feminists, etc.

Maybe you just have shitty parties. I personally love having more than just two.
Well, anything's better than Labour, Conservatives, Liberals and UKIP. . .

The national election is about who gets to sit in the parliament. There's 349 seats in the parliament, and on terms I'm not fully clear with there's also a government separate from that. Most of the time the government consists of members of the party that holds the biggest amount of seats, minority governments are possible. I honestly have no idea how that works.
The government and parliament are responsible for laws, taxes, and in general how the country is being run.

The counties primarily runs the healthcare. They can't run it however they want, but they execute everything within their own county.

The municipalities are responsible for their own cities, and how things are fun there. They can't make their own laws, but they can make decisions about the infrastructure, like streets, buildings, etc.

I voted for the Swedish Environment Party in the national and municipal elections, and for the Leftist Party in the county election.
I voted for the Environment Party in the EP election as well.

Right now the Feminist Initiative party has 4.0% of the counted votes in the national election, which is the limit to actually make it into the parliament. It would be the first time for them to do so.

The Red-Greens (left-wing) so far seem to be bigger than the Alliance (right-wing) and we will probably have a shift in government.

Because of the (relatively, they're still second biggest) weak results for the Moderate Party, current prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has announced that he's resigning as the party's leader.

The juice is loose.
I don't think many people here delve in Swedish politics.

I wouldn't think so either, but I thought I would inform the forum about it anyway. At best, it would spark a discussion, at worst, it's going to be ignored.

Since I'm Swedish it's very relevant to me, and it may be mildly interesting to others.

Of course, everyone who isn't Swedish isn't going to care for more than a few minutes.

While the votes will not be completely counted until a couple of days, the results are clear already.

It's a victory for the left-wing Red-Green block. The right-wing block has gone down in popularity Moderate party won't be in charge. Good thing I say. The school and employment politics of he last eight years has been disastrous. The Moderates has made it easier for employers to fire employees from one day to another, without cause. Hopefully that'll be reversed now.

The nationalistic Sweden Democrats keep rising in popularity. The other parties will probably still refuse to work with them.

The equality party Feminist Initiative ultimately did not make it into the parliament.

That's all from the Swedish election.

Dunno why the fems want a party in your local laws when they already have the super-national EU in their pocket making dictates left, right and centre.

Because not all laws are made by the EU parliament?

A shitshow.
That's what I was thinking. I actually like the two party system a lot. I can't imagine how splintered the American public would be if there were more than two parties.
With as opinionated and Hate Mongering as Americans are?

The most we could handle without falling apart as a nation would be three parties.
