A few years ago, I would have agreed. But now? The US really seems to be heading towards a post-truth society. Tens of millions of people voted for Trump despite how clear it was that he's a disaster and disgrace to his country. Through my girlfriend's family and friends, I now see Facebook posts from actual and real people (not trolls) who believe this kind of crap. People who legitimately ignore demonstrable facts and parrot the dumbest and most unfounded stuff. I want nothing more than to believe that PSU and people like him are just trolling. It would be a great sort of coping mechanism to think these people are just messing with us and are not so stupid, ignorant and biased that it's downright baffling. But there's actually people out there like that. And that's worrying.
I think it speaks more to how upset people are with the political system that they're willing to watch it all burn down than attempt to fix it. And can you blame them? After decades of nonstop proof of how convoluted and awful its gotten, why would anyone want to tread through waist-high shit in order to try and fix it with the possibility of either getting nothing accomplished or becoming part of the problem themselves?
