How nice of the state to pay for a criminals education. Meanwhile, many honest, hard working people continue to get in student debt over the same course material. Sorry for the bitterness, I'm kind of 50/50 on this. It's nice to rehabilitate most criminals, but who is going to buy their Apps?

That's true. But at the same time that's a fair point. Go to jail, but get all the perks of learning what you want without having to fight the system for it?

It's not so much a flaw or a mistake to try and get people to straighten up their act in prison. Because some people can straighten out. But the fact that simply being in prison grants you access to those resources where people who aren't in prison have to struggle and fight every step of the way means that something is fucked.

Colour attraction. Stick a candle in a dark room and all eyes fall on the candle. The coloured folks stand out more in their efforts because they have a feature that marks them as different. People, all people, even news folks and reviewers and stuff like that, seem to have a subconscious habit of doing that. Focusing on the one that stands out.

It's not like we're paying for them to go to Harvard or Yale; we're giving them some tools to get back on their feet after they finish their time so they can break out of they cycle they were in.

I dunno exactly...

They're gonna have a hard time with someone hiring them to give them a decent wage, and if they had to consider paying back in student loans they might well just go back to crime to pay for it if the education they gained gets them nowhere.

Put it this way; two candidates for a job, both are equally qualified and perfect for the job, You check the CRB, and you find one had a stint in the joint for drug use, a violent crime or something a few years back. Would you be inclined to hire them? Most wouldn't, even if they were proficient at what they learned.

I'd rather see people come out of jail and be productive citizens than see them come out of jail and return to committing crime.

Jail shouldn't be about punishment first and foremost, but about rehabilitation. When it comes to repeat violent offenders then they can stay in there and rot <.<

Because it is impossible for people to change for the better, even when offered a chance to improve themselves. Something that that they may not have had or hadn't realized it was something that was worth their time before they began involving themselves in criminal activity.
