It'd be unsustainable if everyone lived forever.

Though that's depending on the form of immortality I guess. If we go through the singularity and all become machine people then that could work, and I'd probably support it. Would open up a whole new world of problems and dangers though.

On sustainability, depending on when an immortality drug would be produced, is it possible to emerge in a situation with resources plentiful enough to shoulder the burden of immortals through developing technologies and policies?

Not if people keep reproducing. I wouldn't halt human evolution for a chance at immortality.
Spoiler
Ok I totally would for myself, but not these other retarded mouth breathers on the planet. ;D

Patent, Mass produce slightly less potent pills that would only slow ageing to a point, enforce a full population control system, and sell prolonged ageing pills for both profit and for immortality... sell full immortality in exchange for all assets and money that that person owns as a trade off. you have to commit to the choice  if you wish for infinite life and infinite experiences. you also gain an "immortal status" on your records that allows full, and free travel universally, along with 3-4 star accommodations, but you cannot get a job or own any property while you are of this status

Are there any side effects besides biological immortality?

Immortality in this sense achieves the halt of aging, not regeneration, not reversing of aging. Let's assume at the age you are currently or five years from now.

One of the strangest things about this post is that if I ever achieved immortality, I'd leave society and essentially abide by all of these regulations, even though I don't necessarily agree with their enforcement. What would the penalty be for violations?

If it came with the full of package of:

- Immortality
- Invincibility
- Cool Armor and stuff

Then I would support our ascendance into godhood.

This would make for a cool novel.

Living for eternity is definitely possible, but you would still be mortal.
That's true. I don't know enough about research in regeneration to make estimates in comparison to gerontology research, but my mind has gerontology research coming first, then pursuing age reversal and regeneration later. If I can get around to living a long time (if not forever) I can work from there.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are
Living young and forever, I could do. I just need to acquire large amounts of money first. I'd sell my immortality stuff to the richest people on the planet and live among them as another wealthy person. I would use large amounts to then educate myself further and enjoy life forever.

you would be forced to take some form of pill that cancels the immortality out, and these would be international laws abided by every man and woman in the servicing industries.
