Addiction, no matter what anybody says, is a medical issue and not a criminal issue. It's not a case of being idiotic, weak-willed or fundamentally 'problematic' of character. It's just unfortunate that you were probably predisposed to addiction in the first place, in the same way I'm predisposed to things like impulsivity and callousness.

Medical drugs weren't really something I thought about when I posted that, and the only time I'd be sympathetic is if someone ended up dependent after being prescribed by a doctor. Anything else is your own goddamn fault because you were being an idiot.

Well that all depends on the substance, your mentality, and how it affects you tbh. You could be be a dullard, snort four xanax bars and forget everything you did for a night. Or could drop acid when you're down, have an epiphany, and find new inspiration in life.

Any given experience is a very subjective thing. It can also be powerful, enlightening, and/or harrowing, or maybe even insignificant. There's no guarantee one will lose focus. Their focus may even sharpen.

In the end, what distinguishes these experiences as something that not everyone is cut out for is the fact that they are all altered perception.

I'm saying you're an idiot if you didn't take medical drugs properly. If you succumb to a weak will then that's another issue entirely.

I'll say it again: addiction is a medical condition arising from certain genetic and neurological predispositions--like all other human behaviour.

Condemning druggies because they 'chose' to take drugs isn't only counter-productive, it's borderline immoral.

I'll show an example:
One time I was prescribed on antibiotics. I was irresponsible and stopped taking them when it felt like I didn't need them anymore instead of finishing the entire bottle like I was supposed to. Needless to say, the infection came back stronger and I had to start over on stronger antibiotics.

Because I decided to be an idiot and go against the doctor's directions.

So you're essentially telling me that you believe that someone who was weak willed is an idiot in the specific instance where they attempted to diagnose themselves/did not follow instructions and fell prey to addition.

But that doesn't tell me whether or not you feel that such a person is a moron because of their self diagnosis or because of the fact that they are weak willed.
