I find it odd that they have to reach 15%. They're the only other party that has a registration in all 50 states. THAT should be requirement enough if you ask me. Keep the 15% for outsiders like the Green Party or some one off Independents.

Regardless of whether or not he makes the debate stage, he'll be on the ballot in all 50 states. With the two options we're given from the major parties, a sizable amount of people wi be voting for neither. If enough people vote third party to at least get press coverage afterwards (even if he loses) it'll show the average citizen that voting third party is not a bad choice.

This is all under the assumption that the obvious winner won't suppress any news on third party voter percentage.

Doesn't Johnson need 5% come election time for the Libertarians to get equal news coverage and debate stage time next cycle?

It annoys me the media isn't as invested in them, because I know damn well it influences the race on who they cover. I bet you the majority of Americans haven't heard of him.

No really. I feel like programming for baby boomers who can't function a fucking cell phone are the ones TV only panders to now since they need their traditional TV and Newspaper (looking at you NBC and the Olympics). The fact we let our media dictate who can be on the debate stage is just so stupid to me. If you have access across all 50 states you should be in. Period.

If you're financing your own campaign, and are not part of a 50 state registered party, THEN you can let this 15% crap go in. Though honestly 10% sounds better to me.

I mean, I'd prefer it if it were "Be on the ballot in all fifty states/enough states to hit 270 and you can debate".

5% is correct, yeah. Johnson got 1% last election, so it's still quite the longshot.

Highest a third party has ever got up to, IIRC, was Ralph Nader in 2000, with 2.7%.

Soooo... Here's hoping that all those Gary Johnson supporters would've voted for Trump.
