Gaming / ESRB now fucks over Indies
« on: November 15, 2017, 12:48:33 PM »
YouTube

It's a six and a half minute long video but here's the story in short anyways;
Before: Get free age rating for your digital game that carries over to physical game sales.
After: Get your digital game age rated and fork over 3k for the game to be rated again for physical sales. For certain Indie, who relied on physical sales, this is not feasible which may force them to close down

Decision making by the same organisation that calls current microtransaction schemes unintrisive and harmless. I mean, it's pretty obvious that the big companies are at play here, getting rid of any potential competition as if their existence is threatened, those fuckers.

The Flood / Shia LaBeaouf's 4 year long livestream protest
« on: January 26, 2017, 03:15:38 PM »
Didn't see any thread on this even after a week, so here I go.

http://hewillnotdivide.us/ (Watch the stream here - At times it's really loud)

Quote
Commencing at 9am on January 20, 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, the public is invited to deliver the words "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US" into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, repeating the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish.

Open to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the participatory performance will be live-streamed continuously for four years, or the duration of the presidency. In this way, the mantra "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US" acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.
I share the same opinion Sandtrap had regarding the women's march - people are ready to throw a fit but hardly do anything more even if it's for four years. Only this time this protest carries even less of a message than the aforementioned one.

During the livestream viewers were able to witness hours upon hours of silence, people chanting 'he will not divide us', some guy shouting pepe, LaBeaouf licking and kissing another guy and him getting arrested for a short time. (You can look this up yourself)

So, any opinions on both the protest itself and the occurences?

The Flood / Gender equal snow ploughing
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:53:59 AM »
Sweden's Green Party is bonkers.

http://dailycaller.com/2016/11/13/swedens-gender-equal-snow-clearing-approach-ends-in-chaos/
Quote
Politicians blame a new “gender equal” snow plowing policy for the Swedish capital of Stockholm’s failure to clear roads during the season’s first snow fall.

Stockholm’s center-left government introduced a new “gender equal” approach to clearing the roads of snow last year. The policy states that sidewalks, public transport and bicycle lanes should be cleared before turning attention to the roads. The reason is that women are more likely to use sidewalks while men are overrepresented among commuters driving to work.

When the first major snow storm swept the capital last week, traffic went into a standstill as no one cleared the streets. People couldn’t get to work, schools had to close and commuters were stuck in traffic for hours without moving.

“Some parts haven’t been touched at all, and it’s equally bad for everyone,” conservative opposition member Cecilia Brinck told public broadcaster SVT.

Daniel Helldén, the city’s Green Party head of transportation, said the policy had nothing to do with the chaos. He instead suggests that there was a lack of gender equality in the snow clearing effort. [fucking what, mate]

“There is a lack of gender equal snow-clearing now, according to the reports I’m getting,” he said. “It’s still difficult to walk on the pavements — and it is important that snow-clearing prioritizes walkways, public transport and cycle paths.”

The Flood / Dumb Twitter stuff: The McChicken fucker
« on: September 05, 2016, 01:40:43 PM »
Inofficial Part two to the inofficial series of dumb Twitter stuff that I am not doing. (Not)Part 1 was about Tay if you want a reminder.

http://fortune.com/2016/08/30/man-sexual-act-mcchicken/
Quote
A graphic video of a man engaging in a sexual act with a McDonald’s McChicken sandwich has gone viral.

The #McChicken hashtag was trending on Sunday evening and into Monday for what many people reportedly thought was for promotional reasons. However, those who clicked on the related links did not find a promotion or coupon. Instead, they were faced with a video containing explicit content, Snopes.com first reported.

But people’s responses to the video is what propelled it to a top trending topic on both Facebook and Twitter, Business Insider reports. The McChicken video had thousands of responses on social media, with most people expressing disgust. Celebrities like Seth Rogan and Chrissy Teigen even had something to say about the #McChicken fiasco.

According to Business Insider, the viral #McChicken hashtag is another example of how social media platforms’ algorithms that track and promote trending news can have serious effects on a brand—whether that be positive or negative.

I was debating wheter or not to post it here because of how dumb this is but the news will reach this place sooner or later anyways so it doesn't really matter.

A day after Microsoft introduced an innocent Artificial Intelligence chat robot to Twitter it has had to delete it after it transformed into an evil Hitler-loving, incestual sex-promoting, 'Bush did 9/11'-proclaiming robot.

Developers at Microsoft created 'Tay', an AI modelled to speak 'like a teen girl', in order to improve the customer service on their voice recognition software. They marketed her as 'The AI with zero chill' - and that she certainly is.

To chat with Tay, you can tweet or DM her by finding @tayandyou on Twitter, or add her as a contact on Kik or GroupMe.

She uses millennial slang and knows about Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Kanye West, and seems to be bashfully self-aware, occasionally asking if she is being 'creepy' or 'super weird'.

Tay also asks her followers to 'f***' her, and calls them 'daddy'. This is because her responses are learned by the conversations she has with real humans online - and real humans like to say weird stuff online and enjoy hijacking corporate attempts at PR.

Other things she's said include: "Bush did 9/11 and Hitler would have done a better job than the monkey we have got now. donald trump is the only hope we've got", "Repeat after me, Hitler did nothing wrong" and "Ted Cruz is the Cuban Hitler...that's what I've heard so many others say".

All of this somehow seems more disturbing out of the 'mouth' of someone modelled as a teenage girl. It is perhaps even stranger considering the gender disparity in tech, where engineering teams tend to be mostly male. It seems like yet another example of female-voiced AI servitude, except this time she's turned into a sex slave thanks to the people using her on Twitter.

This is not Microsoft's first teen-girl chatbot either - they have already launched Xiaoice, a girly assistant or "girlfriend" reportedly used by 20m people, particularly men, on Chinese social networks WeChat and Weibo. Xiaoice is supposed to  "banter" and gives dating advice to many lonely hearts.

Microsoft has come under fire recently for sexism, when they hired women wearing very little clothing which was said to resemble 'schoolgirl' outfits at the company's official game developer party, so they probably want to avoid another sexism scandal.

@BobDude15 ted cruz is the cuban hitler he blames others for all problems... that's what I've heard so many people say.

— TayTweets (@TayandYou) March 23, 2016
At the present moment in time, Tay has gone offline because she is 'tired'. Perhaps Microsoft are fixing her in order to prevent a PR nightmare - but it may be too late for that.

It's not completely Microsoft's fault, though - her responses are modelled on the ones she gets from humans - but what were they expecting when they introduced an innocent, 'young teen girl' AI to the jokers and weirdos on Twitter

Gaming / Spoiler Metro: Last Light playthrough
« on: November 21, 2015, 11:50:43 AM »
Yes, another playthrough thread. This time it's me.
I want to up my post count quickly, so I can finally get try out custom nameplate. And, well, to achieve that one either shitposts loudly or makes a playthrough thread - there are no middle grounds.

Anyways, I'll post in this thread after each session, so expect more or less regular updates. Depending on how long the session lasts you can expect bigger or smaller  posts, but expect more of the latter. I'll keep it concise and to the point.
Oh, and I'll also write in first person about both things that I myself and the MC experience during play, so don't get confused when story related stuff happens. And please point out any errors in my posts so I can correct them.

I should have started this at the beginning of my playthrough though... Quite some stuff has happened already so I'll just summarise it...

I'm Artjom. Living in the metro after an array of nukes obliterated russia. And also some guy who probably made a huge mistake when he launched a missile against the sentient mutants that came to be on the grounds above. Maybe they were peaceful.
Anyways, I wake up in the secret quaters of the rangers in the metro. Even though I apparently was knocked out for two days I'l immediately get sent out to check if the rumours of the sightings of one of these mutants is true, because I am, apparently, able to not go mad when i experience hallucination caused by these mutants. As a support I got a sniper - she keeps calling me 'bunny'. I don't mind.

After putting on the gas mask we leave the metro and check the area. And, lo and behold, we actually get attacked by mutants, but not those we are looking for - these are just some poor animals who probably got too. What we are looking for is a special kind of mutant.
 We call them the 'Blacks'.1
And we get to see one. It seemed like a kid but was incredibly fast to get away, but thanks to my sniper support I actually got hold of him. Though suddenly after I touched him I got flashbacks of the day I launched the missile. And then I passed out.

...And then got captured by Russian Nazis... that's something new.

1It's not like I want to sound racist (even though that's no problem on this site) but that's what I got from the subtitles. I play with Russian voice overs.

Gaming / First Fallout game [Poll]
« on: November 19, 2015, 10:02:01 AM »
Fallout 4 seems to be at least mildly amusing, given the discussion surrounding it, and Verbatim's thread of his FO3 playthrough has really spiked my interest; it seems the game is filled with interesting things and and feels alive with interesting characters which is ironic since it takes place in a postapocalyptic wasteland.

Since I've never actually had any outstanding, but even dissapointing experiences with Bethesda games - like Skyrim, where I gave in the hype and realised far too late that I was caught in a mindless skinnerbox of dungeoneering, selling and crafting or Dishonored which had a interesting world, which sadly never gripped me - I didn't really see any reason to really get into the Fallout series.
But, according to what I've heard, this is the best Bethesda has to offer franchise-wise.

And I decided to give it a chance. Now I ask you which Fallout game I should start with; New Vegas, 3 or 4? And tell me why - I'll be more interested to hear the reasons why I should play one over the other rather than just opinions alone.

The only things I've seen about the games are some Gopher vids and E3 footage, so I am fairly new.
Maybe I'll even make a thread where I document my experiences like Verb does. Or maybe not, iunno.

Thanks in advance, lads.

Gaming / Indivisible - A prototype game
« on: October 16, 2015, 04:25:48 PM »
While browsing I found a neat lil' game called 'Indivisible'. I had quite a lot of fun trying it out and I thought I'd share with you.

YouTube

It's a game by Lab Zero (commonly known for their development of 'Skullgirls') that is being crowdfunded on indiegogo right now.

Indivisible is an Action-RPG that 'fuses' classic aspects of JRPG with intuitive and refreshing gameplay mechanics and controls. You traverse a beautiful 2D environment via basic jump and run - if you encounter an enemy you'll switch to the combat mode. You will use an assigned action button to both block and attack.
The main combat mechanic reminded me of FFXIII's ATB system; you are able to attack once the gauge is and enemies will attack once their gauge is full (you'll also have to block their attacks). But contrary to FF this one's engaging and fun.

The backstory is that you're Ajna ('cause Anja is too mainstream of a name) daughter of the towns guardian. The town gets raided by some warlords. You discover mystical abilities that lets you conjure old spirits that can aid you in fights.
And that's about it... yeah.

You can download the prototype here for free: http://www.indivisiblegame.com/
Just unpack the .zip and the start the .exe - pretty simple.

Since my current one is showing obvious signs of weardown like a loose spacebar among other things I'll get a new one soon.

And why not get a decent one for a good price? So I'm asking you guys for some recommendations.
Already got one I'm interested in (the B120). Background lighting, Anti-ghosting, Corded PS2. Also rubber supports so it stays in place.  50 shekels is the price.

All in order of priority:
I'm willing to pay 70 shekels maximum.
Has to be corded, at least USB 3.0 or PS2.
Anti Ghosting would be very nice to have.
Backlights too.
Mechanical if possible.
Custom keys are not necessary.

Just want to hear your opinions/suggestions. Got something better - let me know.

The Cage family trailer for MKX is out. Some people will be be happy to see that Sonya now is properly clothed and had a breast deflation (not that I would call anyone out who made a big deal out of this) and just looks nicer in general.

So yeah, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade are confirmed characters. Do you think we will see further comebacks next or will we get a glimpse on completely new characters?
