Did you ever stop and ever think about that? I certainly question it. Is there really anything inherently wrong with openly admitting that you are smart? Because I'd wager, that sometimes wanting to tell somebody that you are smart can be associated with being pleased with yourself.
You do something and it works and you say "damn I'm good." It's a happy feeling and you feel like sharing it, just because of how excited it has you.
And then, somebody has the gall to call you insecure or self centered if you so much as do it once.
Think about it.
We live among a society that openly and actively shuns you if you admit that you're smart in some avenue.
Because, apparently, saying "I'm stupid and not smart at all" is the sanest, best thing you can say.

yeah, but having some self-celebration after accomplishing something isn't the same as going on and on about how apparently intelligent you are when nobody cares.
If nobody cares then wouldn't said person just sort of ramble to themselves all alone and not be responded to?

That surprises me. You'll still have a great time in college regardless. Frats are kind of gay imo.
i was more interested in the change of faces than anything. getting to meet a shit ton of new people (especially females) really enhances the college experience

As someone who doesn't live in the US and is fairly sure that Frats aren't a thing here, can someone explain to me what they are?
a fraternity is a brotherhood of likeminded men that lasts for as long as you're alive. yes you do have to go through an initiation process but most of the time it's 6 weeks of studying your fraternities history and then passing a test.
there are some that haze people and do weird shit like making their pledges shove a carrot up their ass, but a bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.
Once you're initiated you pay dues which go to housing (if the university has fraternity houses on their campus), and funding for philanthropy and events with sororities (which are the female equivalents to fraternities).
honestly i'm super excited about the amount of girls i'll be talking to 👌
