But to be prancing through the bad part of town at 4 AM half naked and then expecting no one to wuestion whether you could've done anything to protect yourself is another

Being dumb isn't the same thing as being at fault. The point is that you should be able to wear whatever you want at any point in the day and feel no fear. Because of rapists, that's impossible. The aura of fear we've cultivated around men and the rapes themselves are all on them.
Of course the victim is not at fault But it's all about minimizing threat We live in a world where there will always be criminals No system will ever be free of those who oppose it Yes of course people should never feel threatened for what they wear But that's assuming we live in a perfect world Which we don't So to do whatever you want and justify it by "oh because I should feel safe", that isn't good enough Like I said Rapists are rapists Some rapists will reform some rapists will not But the point is that they're out there And you'll be naive to think that you can impose a society where rapists will not rape you All you're doing is punishing those who recognize the situation for what it is and who are trying do their best to minimize it News flash, rapists won't listen to your little lectures about rape culture Your view is that everyone should be safe at all times And they should be in an ideal world But this is not an ideal world So using idealized standards in a non ideal world is just stupid
