And do you understand the changes that are actually taking place? Are you a neurologist?
Do you know that there exists medication and treatment for people who want to get their lives back together?
It's because the disorder isn't them, and they are not their disorder. They're separate. If they weren't separate, medication wouldn't even be possible. You would just be permanently depressed with nothing to do about it.
Thankfully, it doesn't work the way a high schooler on the Internet thinks it does.
Good thing it doesn't work like some failed English major thinks it does either If you're looking at it from a biopsychologist's view, you're looking at physical changes in the brain AKA chemicals and brain structure A disorder would be a change in neurotransmitters for example It all depends on what levels of neurotransmitters are normally present in the brain A person who had low levels of serotonin all his life would be characterized by that If his serotonin levels suddenly spiked to that of what most people have, he would change It's not like he would get back to his real self if his brain chemistry returned to "normal" Medication just keeps the levels of chemicals in your body balanced so that you can function how you have always functioned So no They are not separate Your mental illnesses are you

Just because something makes life harder or unbearable doesn't mean anyone but yourself is responsible for making the decision to end it
You do realize that a person and their mental illness aren't two separate things right
It's not like your mental illness is just a bad friend giving you bad ideas
of course not, but no mental illness physically compels you to kill yourself, you're still the one in control of your life and you still choose whether you want to go through with suicide or live to fight another day
mental illnesses can certainly make you more apt or willing to end your life, but they don't kill you any more than a bully kills their victim who committed suicide

I've been deeply depressed before and I still have to deal with it on a regular basis, I know how it screws with your brain and makes you feel like nothing will ever get better
but you can still fight that feeling and overcome it - the disease changes the way you think, but it doesn't completely dominate your actions
You way think is "you" Your self concept is directly affected by it That's why it's a mental illness It's not an external source affecting the way you think

Just seems like to much. You could write a whole book about the American Revolution. If I could write a whole book about a subject I try to narrow down my topic. How Americans saw themselves, how the conflict between the colonies and Britain started, taxation without representation and taxes that caused anger : stamp act, townsheed act, sugar act. Major battles of the Revolution. How Britain gave freedom to slaves who joined their fight. There are to many topics in the American Revolution to cover. If I was writing a report or project on this I would narrow it down. But you do the project how you want.
