I'm really just against all pandering--to any crowd ever. Make the game you want to make, and then I'll judge it from there. Don't make the game that you think other people will necessarily enjoy--or you, for that matter. Imagine if people wrote books like they design video games. It would be retarded.

I agree with pretty much most of that, but this one is a bit difficult to understand

How do you make a game "you" want to make without somewhat choosing what you want, whether it's the art style or the gameplay

what if the pandering was what you, or heck most of the development team liked as well

As someone who has actually played around with VR I don't think it's ready for actual gaming. At the moment it's little more than an expensive gimmick.

One of the big issues for me is that the VR headset (I used the HTC Vive for reference) isn't wireless. This makes me cautious when it comes to moving around because I don't  want to trip over the damn cord when the game wants me to get wagglin with parts of my body that aren't my head and hands.

i agree partially that games where you have to stand and move your body around dont work that well, the other problem is the huge bandwidth needed to send the tracking data from the headset as well as video through the headset from the machine still has too much latency for vr

but for simulator games where youre sitting with sim controls its perfect

also doesnt the vive have chaperone so you can see the cable, not the best solution but better than nothing

I could see my "safe box", but not the cable.

oh nvm then

Gaming / Re: 4K gaming. Does anyone care?
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:27:22 PM »
tbh 4k isn't that big of an improvement compared to the jump from SD to HD. with 1080p it felt like a revolution and people wanted in on it, with 4K it's just "that's neat I guess but it's too expensive still"
Spoiler

Seems like a pretty decent jump to me.
Technically it's a larger jump in quality, but when using a TV screen of average size, from a normal viewing distance, the difference isn't big enough to the naked eye to warrant an upgrade for most people.

And even if we talk about pure numbers only there's diminishing returns the higher up you go - though we haven't really reached that point yet. But actual quality isn't always the same as perceived quality.
it'll still eventually get super cheap and the pixel density at computer-distance around 2 feet away from the screen will eliminate the need for anti-aliasing at the cost of running it at 4k lol

other than that nothing else really and wont be worth it for a good while as long as AA is still around

glad vr will be dead soon
Pretty retarded thing to say and be glad about, considering that VR will not only continue to live on--it's literally the future, and it's literally going to be the greatest thing ever invented. Literally.

If it were dying, why would someone like you--I assume you consider yourself an intelligent person--why would someone who considers himself to be an intelligent person be glad about VR dying?

To be honest, it probably will die. The issue with VR is PSVR. The Playstation VR is a utter piece of shit. I admit, it had its cool moments but that low resolution is probably the worst I've ever felt, and it will continue to be like that. It is an issue. Most people, because they already own a console, will buy the PSVR, and their experience with VR will be terrible.

This is why VR will die, because PSVR is shit.

alive and well in the PC market

plenty of PC peripherals have survived on just PC, e.g tobii eyex, track ir, HOTAS sets

because it fails on console initially wont mean it will die, even google cardboard apps that run on your phone is a very neat way to promote vr with tech that pretty much everyone has now

even if it doesnt become big for gaming it has plenty of potential to succeed elsewhere

this

not only is it successful and i actually know people who have and work with the technology, i made an android game with unity once for VR

it has the potential to become a completely immersive experience, particularly in the world of simulation gaming

its at the point where it works well enough that most people can feel a strong sense of presence inside a virtual world that isnt their own, for standing games it doesnt work that well but if youre playing something like a flight simulator or a racing sim where you have the controls for it, is where it really shines

im guessing a lot of people who are saying this havent actually tried it fully to realize the kind of potential vr has

Jokes on you, I got frustrated installing the Hyper 212 EVO onto the Mobo and gave up and just have the stock cooler installed. The 212 EVO is sitting in a box in the other room gathering dust.

and please tell me you don't have a Hyper Evo 212 facing down so it blows all hot air directly on to the GPU.
its ez to install if you read the instructions

That's not really how diplomatic immunity works, but I won't rain on the hypothetical parade.

You just did by saying that.

I know that's not how it works but I didn't have another name for what to call this, so I'm sticking with that.
you couldve just said "youre above the law"

Mind some criticising? I'll do it anyways.

I like the handdrawn sketch more. It has consistency to it which the other picture lacks. In the second picture you applied perspective distortion to the boombox but completely ignored it on the character, what makes the box look out of place. The on-paper sketch has many suggestions of relative size, like the positions of his legs and the sizes of eyes and eyebrows, that are applied on the character in a manner that makes it look convincing.

I'd say you made improvements on the tail but I don't think that's what you're focused on.
i don't mind the criticism; in fact this is the first time i've ever gotten anything resembling criticism

i still prefer the second drawing greatly over the first, but i get what you're saying--i suppose the first one does convey a bit more depth

i kinda wanted to give the second one a more flat, cartoony look, though, focusing more on expressiveness and flow

i prefer the second one too
