I feel the games Kojima did exclusive writing for was a meh job. MGS 4 and 5.

And I know he has a lot of fallout with Konami which affected things, but does anyone feel Kojima got kinda up his own ass about his writing skills towards the end?

Him thinking Quiet's reasons for being justified is stupid, and a lot of MGS V's dialogue is terrible seeing as he fired the guy who did the localization for MGS1. He wanted more direct translation, which really made the dialogue suffer if you ask me. I always felt MGS1's dialogue flowed the best.
Well, Quiet, like many things in MGSV, had a good reasoning/thinking behind it, but was just not executed well. I don't know what Kojima spent all his time doing, but I'm sure he could've been able to do better than he did. Whether it was arrogance, perfectionism, mismanagement, or some combination, something got fucked up. And I struggle to believe you could put the blame on the time restrictions he had.
I think him wanting to go completely open world and abandon a few staples that have been there since the ORIGINAL METAL GEAR kinda messed it up.

I don't care what you say, I feel codec moments (aside from MGS4) had far better flow of dialogue than the cassette tapes ever did.
I don't know about the open world, that felt fine to me. The codec moments would've been nicer to have, but I feel like the story just wasn't fleshed out well enough where it needed to be, and sometimes they did flesh it out at necessary points but only through the tapes. Not saying it was bad they did it in the tapes, just that in cutscenes or something would've been nicer, but I get it was due to time and resources.
I felt open world ruined the pacing of the story because of the implementation of repetitive side missions. Then again, I guess Peace Walker did that too, but the writing was strong. Then again, Peace Walker did the open sections rather than completely open. I feel, like my copy paste comment said a page or so back, that implementing zones as big as Ground Zeroes places would have been far better than just a wide open world that is honestly not filled with many things when going from place to place.

I've been saying for awhile that the fault with MGSV isn't Konami, it's Kojima. The man had several years to create the game. The Fox Engine makes game development the most user friendly and efficient process it's ever been. You're telling me, that with $80M, 5+ years, and the most powerful engine on the market, you can't tell a story that rivals a PSP game from almost 6 years ago? Not even talking strictly dialogue, simply thematic and narrative creativity.

Kojima is incapable of delegation and prioritisation. I could've made a better game than he did with those circumstances.

And this is coming from the biggest "fan boy" you'll ever meet.
I honestly think Kojima is more arrogant than we'd like to ever think since he's a treasure in the video game industry. Anyone who disagreed with him was probably shut out because it's "his" series, but sometimes it takes an outside perspective/collaborative effort to do something.

I almost get a George Lucas feel coming from him. Sure it's his series, and he is the reason it got to where it is, but to think everything you did is right? That's just stupid.

Come on, now. I know you didn't realise how shit MGS4 was until you watched matthewmatosis's review.
Actually when I first played it, the whole Zero and friendly companions as TRUE ENEMIES never sat well with me. Ever.

Yeah but you were singing the game's praises before you saw that video.

It's fine. At least you didn't get buttblasted like most people do when you show them how shit the game is.
I think my state of mind was, when thinking of MGS 4 I just thought of the good things. When I heard MGS4 I thought Mech fight yeah! Microwave yeah! Old. Snake. sad :(, Ocelot/Snake fight, woah!

Then I got reminded of things I just honestly forgot. I only played the game officially once, and did a no spotted one for stealth.

Does anyone else feel that we had a drastic cut in cutscenes as a big "fuck you" since people (rightly) complained about nearly 8 hours of cutscenes footage for MGS4?
Going opposite end of the spectrum is rarely the answer for anything ever.

Finally got the emblem. My canon is complete. Annoying thing is I obviously can't get the banner on top like the original one, so this is as close as I can get it to looking good. Any suggestions? Tried tilting my words on either side of the skull but eh, it wasn't too great.

"Game would've been so much better if it was structured like Ground Zeroes instead. Instead of an "Open World", it should've been "Open Levels" instead. Tightly designed places that still offer the player freedom for infiltration without the cons of open world game design.

The whole game reeks of missed potential. The gameplay that is there is excellent. Everything else? Half-complete and butchered."

I agree with this comment

It doesn't matter how great lore is if the story presented to you is absolute shit.

It was cheap of bungie to make you go to their shit site for info. Maybe integrate it in the story and have an actual narrative.

you'd like that

Konami was initially giving the go ahead, but then later said some devs were against it. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kojima was against it, seeing as he's very protective of his series.

Speaking of Metal Gear 1, you guys remember that fan project that stopped?

Well he's picking it back up again after finishing whatever he was doing. He's using the Unreal 4 Engine.

yeah but on the first frequency big boss said he was going to change frequencys SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Maybe it was Venom saying that, or BB really did wanna change but got cock blocked.

A small retcon would change that.
But how would venom be saying that? If it was him why wouldn't he just keep using that frequency.
Interference from Big Boss? He might've hacked the station and told him to switch, and blocked off BB. Idk.

Just an update. I was gonna play last night but MGS V grinding got the better of me.

2nd is that power right now is flickering due to this hurricane and the last thing I want is for me to have won a huge battle, only for the power to cut off. So if it calms down later tonight (or tomorrow), I'll start then.

I could ask the same question with Quiet's mission I just finished.

She was forced to speak English, yet you're telling me they didn't have Code Talker on the line like literally every other time? I suppose the storm dimmed the coms though, so that makes sense.

Venom rejects this idea, and starts to give Solid false information (notice how he uses a different frequency in MG1 once he begins to do this?)
Shut up, nuh uh. You gotta link me that, because that sounds so cool and subtle hahaha.

If Kojima tied that in then I have to admit, THAT is pretty cool.

The fact that the Obama administration is not using this as an opportunity to thaw relations and find common ground with Russia says a lot.
Ukraine and the whole anti-gay thing have the US all upset. I say anti-gay thing because the democrats in the US are more and more pro social issues.

they're just trying to keep Assad in power
While the Russians have no love for Islamic terrorists, given their issues with the Chechnya, that is exactly Russia's long-term goal. They have been staunchly pro-status quo in the Middle East from Libya to Syria to the point where relations with the UK have been the worst for decades.
And given the surrounding events, I can't blame them. I'd rather have a dictator in power than a power vacuum for terrorists to take over. The US has shown twice (in the 21st century) it happens.

So I have a question

You guys mentioned the Operation Intrude tape as a "deterrent" for Snake to tell Venom to stop. But I sensed none of that after seeing that cutscene and listening to the Truth tapes. And on Wiki it mentioned none of that either, but rather he was basically forced to order the hit once the US Government found nukes on board.

So it seems more so Snake was forced to do it, and didn't personally want to kill him, hence why he sent in Snake (whom Big Boss himself clearly underestimated in Zanzibar). That's just my guess on it unless you guys have other proof.

I saw a 60 Minutes interview with PUTIN and he laughed when asked if Russia was trying to be a super power and basically said he finds it odd how every single move Russia does is portrayed as having ultra deep ulterior motive behind it.

While I'm not saying Russia is innocent of things, I think he brought up a good point, because CNN and other media sites aren't shutting up that they're just trying to keep Assad in power and not worry about ISIS at all, which I think is stupid.

Everyone is being effected by em.

If you're not doing hardcore mode in New Vegas you're playing the game wrong.
I can't stand Fallout NV hardcore, yet I enjoy Skyrim mods that I have to deal with getting wet, the cold, and hunger.

Probably because NV hardcore is still laughably easy. the only reasonable concern in it is managing your ammo and getting doctor's bags. But they aren't that much of a challenge. Especially when you use the adrenaline injector on Dead Money and it breaks the sleep meter so you don't have to sleep again.
I think it's more I find it annoying than I do fun or immersive. And like you said with broken things, I find you're just too weak and the enemies are too strong (talking about vanilla), and fast travel is just absolutely broken and annoying.

but I think some people really were overhyping how emotional it was.

Those pesky expectation spoilers... this is why I try to avoid 'em. Suddenly I don't seem so unreasonable, huh?

No, but really, it wasn't just emotional. It was so freaking thematic. It was a perfect storm of atmosphere.
Honestly, if that's how the game ended (after let's say, you take care of Eli and Metal Gear and stuff), I wouldn't mind. Even the ending for Eli was good because Snake looking out the window to the demon was nice.

Still, it coulda somehow been a way to change his outlook on things, and I wish the outbreak was done by someone like the US Government (and things obviously go wrong because it's almost a global catastrophe). That would change Venom Snake's outlook on a lot of things and then try and push for a nuke, which I think woulda led perfectly into MG 1.

Quote
The airstrike targeted ISIS military equipment, communications centers, vehicles and ammunition, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said, as part of pinpoint strikes against ISIS ground targets.

How do you guys feel about this? Honestly I'm glad Russia is taking care of it. The more people the better, and another powerful country besides the US to fuck up the Middle East even more.
