The Flood / Saw 'Ready Player One'
« on: April 01, 2018, 09:43:47 AM »
I saw it with a friend last night. I came in with low expectations, but aside from a moment or two, the movie was actually surprisingly good if you ask me. Completely different in plot than what I saw of trailers, almost felt like two halves really (one in virtual world, one IRL).

It had a Goonies feel to it for me, and I mean that in the best possible way. Every artist has their sort of signature thing, and for Spielberg it always seems to be kids going on some adventure against bad grown ups (and large crowds for whatever reason). As basic a concept as it is, it was still enjoyable. Can't really say much without spoiling, but if you're on the fence about going to see it, you might as well. It's better than seeing another Marvel movie with the same cookie cutter plot line.

What's some things that annoy the shit out of you in video games, regardless of what setting/genre it is?

For me? It'd be having a whiny fucking protagonist for a character. I've been trying to beat Tales of Zestiria lately and OH MY GOD the main character Sorey is such a fucking pussy. I'll spare you the details and just sum it in to this

"We can't kill anyone! We have to save them!"

Yeah, let your imagination wander with that and you have it. Doesn't help his voice is raspy, which annoys me. Raspy voices annoy me. Fuck you, Sorey.

More things coming in, but it seems all Democrat down ballots for Virginia. Will update. Figured people like election night shit.

Update: Democrats won all 3 major seats in Virginia

First transgender delegate kicked out the 25 year incumbent who sponsored the bathroom bill ban on trans people. Talk about irony.

Idk, no one is talking about this, probably because we're all kinda tired of hearing about stuff like this? But I figured we might as well make a threat considering it's the first juicy thing coming out of people associated with Trump. Should note as of now though, it has nothing to do with his campaign.

Saw the thumbnail and I'm glad I did. The art style instantly reminds me of Wind Waker (I am a fan of this), and the smol pieces of music is shows, along with puzzles, easily has captured me to try this game. Plus I am a sucker for emotional stories.

I figured I'd share it on here if anyone is interested in trying since it's available across all platforms (I thought it was Nintendo at first honestly).

I thought of you, VERB when seeing it because of art style and discussing it, so maybe you'd like this. I'll post thoughts once I get my hands on it.

You Brits have one scary leader ready to capitalize on terror attacks. Which is funny since they slashed funding for police.

Slash funding on things that help to uphold the law

Say the law needs to be tightened and make it more authoritarian

My first thought was it'd just make some crazy neo-nazi's feel more entitled or something. But either way, pretty shocking discovery and claim.

Just figured I'd ask your guy's thoughts on it. Personally I think this is good so they don't try to rush it and actually take the time to construct something that's good throughout rather than have some key really bad spots.

The Flood / Group project question for you guys (small rant)
« on: March 24, 2017, 10:38:54 PM »
You ever do a group project and you feel like you're the only one who has any remote idea you know what you're doing? Because I've had one fucking partner here ask THREE GOD DAMN TIMES NOW what the fuck she needs to be doing (I'm convinced this girl is legit fucking slow) when we discussed TWICE IN CLASS TOGETHER what we're supposed to be doing. The last time being on class last Wednesday and we each detailed the SPECIFIC thing we're supposed to be doing.

It's an assignment for English where we each take a political cartoon on a subject (we chose medical prices and how they're too high). Two for, two against. Obviously one side is harder than the other since universal consensus is it's over priced, so finding cartoons is a bitch as well as writing about it. Naturally I take the harder one because I don't trust other people to.

Anyway, this is due Monday, and this girl asks again, today, what she's supposed to be doing, WHEN WE MADE IT CLEAR TO UPLOAD IMAGES BY WEDNESDAY of this week. Unsurprisingly, I'm the only one who fucking did that.

By this point I just sent a message that basically said "listen, since this isn't working out, just submit your paragraphs for each of your cartoons and I'll throw it together with mine to make it mesh well as a paper, and re-upload so you can all read so we know what we're gonna be talking about."

and urged them to bring their cartoons to class on Monday because we need to.

TL;DR - my partners are incompetent, especially one slow bitch who asked again what she's supposed to be doing when we explained TWO FUCKING TIMES, and don't follow deadlines. I feel I have to try and pull everything together (as usual) or we might possibly fail, and once again that annoyingly leaves me doing most of the work I feel.

But I don't trust anyone else doing that in the first place anyway.

I'm a bit annoyed at it all so I have to share and hear thoughts. Sorry.

Islam is the world's fastest growing religion - and not just in Muslim majority nations: 10% of all Europeans are projected to be members of the Muslim faith by 2050, according to a recent Pew Research Center study.

The study estimates that from 2010 to 2050, Muslims will have increased across the world by 73%, followed by Christians who are projected to grow by 35% during the same time period, and Hindus at 34%.
That means that Islam -- currently the world's second-largest religion -- will surpass Christianity as the world's biggest religion by the end of the century, the study projects.
Explain how Sharia law will doom the West.

Serious / Media trust falls along party lines
« on: February 23, 2017, 01:11:52 PM »
http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/22/media/trump-media-trust-quinnipiac/index.html

Quote
That is the finding of a Quinnipiac University poll which shows a dramatic split between Republicans and other Americans when it comes to matters of trust.

Quinnipiac's survey found that 52% of voters trust the media more than they trust Trump, while only 37% said they trusted Trump more. Among Democrats, 86% said they trusted the media more than the president. But among Republican voters, the balance is flipped: 78% said they trusted Trump more than the media, while just 13% said they trusted the media more.

This is a depressing article at how many people actually favor a habitual liar more than media (and no I'm not saying the media doesn't lie, but they are at least more grounded in reality than Trump ever has been).

But at the same time, it's a wake up call for the mainstream media to really work on two key issues

1. Just report the facts and stop having the table talk discussions on how wrong one side is. Let the American public decide that for themselves.

2. Recognize how far journalism has fallen since the introduction of 24/7 media in 1980. There are many things that contribute to this of course, with technology being a massive part of it (cell phones), but at the same time, news sites need to realize that getting the most clicks and ratings is what is making people hate them more and more

Hidden #3. Stop acting like the sky is falling with every single report, otherwise when it really is falling, you've made the public so damn numb to your sensationalist titles and claims that they don't respond how they should.

Serious / Republicans explore curbing the Endangered Species Act

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/15/politics/endangered-species-act-republicans-congress/index.html

Quote
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing Wednesday with Republicans focused on curbing the Endangered Species Act, the latest front in the conservative push to rein in regulations they see as harmful to business.

The law is a flashpoint: The agriculture industry says it imposes far-reaching regulatory burdens. James Holte of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation told the committee, "farmers and ranchers consider it their personal responsibility to be stewards of the land. However, the ESA creates many challenges for them to balance agriculture production with wildlife habitat."

Republican lawmakers have also complained the Endangered Species Act has had a negative impact on drilling, logging and mining. They've argued it has hampered economic growth in these industries and expressed frustration that animals that reach recovery status are not de-listed.

And many who want to see the law relaxed believe it tramples on their property rights by imposing restrictions on how they can use their land. They're calling for a higher threshold for supporting data and research that justifies putting an animal on the endangered species list before invoking federal power over an individuals' land.
Environmentalists who support the law say the Endangered Species Act is not broken nor is it in need of "modernization."

Jamie Rappaport Clark, president and CEO of Defenders of Wildlife, a national nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities, also testified before the committee.

"For more than 40 years, the ESA has been successful, bringing the bald eagle, the American alligator, the Stellar sea lion, the peregrine falcon and numerous other species back from the brink of extinction. Based on data from the (Fish and Wildlife Service), the ESA has saved 99% of listed species from extinction," Clark told members of Congress.
"Species de-listings increased significantly under President Barack Obama, a true testament that, with time and attention, many species can and do recover if protected by the ESA. During its eight-year tenure, the Obama administration removed a record-setting 29 species from the endangered species list -- more than all previous administrations combined," she said.

Clark told the committee in her experience, Republican efforts to "modernize" the Endangered Species Act have "almost always been code to push forward an agenda to weaken or gut the nation's premier and most effective wildlife conservation law. That agenda -- backed by special interests -- ignores the public value of wildlife conservation."
A relaxing of the act would be seen as a win on one of President Donald Trump's campaign promises, as he promised to roll back federal regulations he sees as unnecessarily harmful to business.

The ESA was signed into law under a different Republican president: Richard Nixon in 1973.
I don't get it. It's like they don't understand not all regulations are shit. Getting rid of laws simply for the sake of getting rid of them because "big bad gubbermint" is completely asinine.

Teddy Roosevelt is ready to come back to life and choke a bitch.

High-level advisers close to then-presidential nominee Donald Trump were in constant communication during the campaign with Russians known to US intelligence, multiple current and former intelligence, law enforcement and administration officials tell CNN.

President-elect Trump and then-President Barack Obama were both briefed on details of the extensive communications between suspected Russian operatives and people associated with the Trump campaign and the Trump business, according to US officials familiar with the matter.

GASP! to the surprise of no one. I don't know what to really add to this, considering we've all said what we've had to for over half a year now with this. It's like the NSA in that we all knew it was happening. It's just that the people under scrutiny were denying it.

Quote
South Dakota Republicans on Thursday repealed a historic anti-corruption law approved by voters in a statewide referendum on Election Day.

The measure, which passed with more than 51% backing in November, would have created an independent ethics commission, limited lobbyist gifts to lawmakers, banned officials from joining lobbying firms for two years after leaving office and created so-called "Democracy vouchers" for registered voters to steer toward their preferred candidates.
But state GOP lawmakers said they didn't think voters knew what they were doing.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard, a Republican, signed the repeal bill on Thursday night. In a budget address delivered after the November referendum, he claimed the public had been "hoodwinked by scam artists who grossly misrepresented these proposed measures."
So this can/will be struck down in the courts, right? Going directly against the first 3 words of the constitution seems kinda bad.
