People who try and justify lack of story in MGS V, regardless of a said twist, need to be shot in the head for defending such a bad practice.
And TWD is good, it's just your decisions really don't matter in the end.

I always thought Cazadors were freaky. Whenever they got close and made that noise (and since they move so damn FAST and what not), I always got the chills.
So maybe I do understand what you're on about.
still nothing beats this abomination

Isn't there a mod for that? I should install it and become the ultimate masochist.

There was nothing to invalidate in MGS V considering there was literally no buildup to fucking anything. At least Mass Effect 3 in my opinion built up to a grand finale and threw loss at you left and right. I enjoyed the adventure of ME3 FAR more than MGS V due to the set pieces, characters (YES, ME had characters, MGS V didn't), narrative, and other things. I understand the game gets flack for the ending, as it rightfully should, but as a whole package in the story department, I'd pick ME3 any day of the week. And shocker, the ending didn't really destroy my opinion of it either, even if it was weak. I was happy with the extended endings they gave for closure at least. Edit: You forgot this game

Damn, speech checks have returned back to the % chances again. Only now, it's colour coded, so I can't even tell what the exact chance is.
Yeah but now I can just save and keep reloading until I pass the speech check :')
I'm going to force myself to not reload if I fail the check
It's a shame they had to go back to percentages, but I suppose with the removal of skills I dunno how else they'd do it
It's the same as pick pocketing someone in the game really. You have a certain percentage you will succeed or fail. It's up to you, the player, whether you'll honor the outcome/consequences and keep going, or re-load the save. At least that's how I see it.

Brink with... EVERYTHING (I was hyped for that game)
Assassins Creed 3 for removing the "assassin" and stealth out of the game
Fable 3
Halo 4 with it's CoD multiplayer

I did like Total War Medieval 2, yeah. Arguably the best in the series.
The pacing of the battles makes the game tedious for me. Shogun 2 is my favourite of the series.
Ah yes, Shogun 2. The game that plays into the stereotype that they all look alike (the joke being little unit diversity). Pace was slow in ME2 but overall it was the strongest one if you ask me. Sieges were especially amazing.

Like... really?
I don't like spiders either but I'm not so much of a scaredy cat that a video game version of them would scare me lol.
No Fallout doesn't have spiders, they have roaches.
You're such a strong man in my eyes~
This is one of two phobias I cannot get over, regardless of the medium they are in.
I literally can't do it
That's cute. Here, watch this weird video that's cartoony so you shouldn't die.

All history in Fallout is the same as ours until post WW2. Then they took a different branch in time.

So I had to stop playing Fallout 3, simply because of how clunky it is. Even with the ADS, it was just very very annoying for me to play as compared to NV's gunplay.
What?
I thought NV's gun-stuff was basically F3's ported over with added Iron sights, some ammo types and modifications thrown in.
It basically is, and idk how to describe it, but FO NV's gunplay just felt more consistent and clean. Probably because the game was built from the start knowing iron sights would be a thing, and 3 had just a mod, which is GOOD, but it's still a bit wonky sometimes. Idk, I just got sick of tinkering all the time instead of enjoying the game.

It might be because of a few mods like realistic weapon damage as well, but overall eh. It's a shame too because I made it SO DAMN PRETTY. One of my final screenshots of it is this, and I love loooooove how the lighting is. This is exactly what the metro's looked like to me while in DC.

Ugh, has there been anything about being able to turn the voice off?
Why would they give you the option to turn off what one of their main advertising points has been about? Just wait for mods.
It should be optional without mods. Not everyone has a monster rig.
Like stated above, mods are coming to consoles, but still, Bethesda wanted it to be a main part of their game. It'd be very stupid to turn it off when it's something they wanted to push. It'd be like wanting the option to turn off the companion tree in NV because players liked the other more simplistic version in 3. Not a good comparison, but you get my point.

Steep learning curb, isometric game that'll take time to actually get used to, save a LOT, and like most RPG's in the 90's, it doesn't hold your hand at all. That means if you're lost, look up something or figure it out yourself, or if you mess up, you mess up.

Devils advocate aside, my Chinese food is on its way, so I'll have to bring this discussion to a close. I've said what I needed to anyway in regards to my opinions and the thought process.
Others can carry it on or make their own judgement.

How is top down gameplay fun at all?
How is *insert any genre* gameplay fun at all?

Look, I don't think anyone can really EXPLAIN to you the appeal of Fallout 1 and 2 if your mind has already been made up before the conversation started. That literally defeats the entire point of the discussion or debates. Coming in saying with the "i'm right, you're wrong" mentality is just the wrong way to go about it if you bothered to make a thread like this.

Again, if you want that kind of atmosphere, you should either be playing a game that actually has enjoyable gameplay or play a tabletop RPG and use your imagination instead of settling for a second rate version of what you want.
But there are people who enjoy top down gameplay (and still do if Pillars of Eternity proved anything), and the atmosphere for Fallout 1 and 2 was just fine. If anything, your logic is telling me that I should settle with something that's objectively less of an atmosphere unless you somehow use your imagination to make up for it. In terms of video games, no one has to do that.

In terms of gameplay, it's kind of impossible to compare Fallout 1 and 2 to 3 and NV, considering they're entirely different genre's at that point. which is interesting
how come they made such a drastic change anyway
Well, 1 and 2 were made by Interplay, 3 and NV by Bethesda. I suppose Bethesda wanted to use a more current gameplay style as well as make the game their own by using their style of gameplay.
NV was PUBLISHED by Bethesda but made by Obsidian, a lot of which contained the original people who did 1 and 2. That's why you see things implemented in it that were in their unfinished game Van Buren, and a lot of Fallout 1 and 2 OST's you can hear around the world. Same with the world being so tied to 1 and 2 with the Super Mutants, NCR (who were in fallout 2), references to Fallout 2 such as Marcus talking about traveling with a tribal (the MC in Fallout 2), and much more.

New company, games hadn't seen success since 1998 a decade ago, they just came off of Oblivion and wanted to implement their vision of games onto it, etc.
