Everything needed to make the space race possible and to win it, is what makes America great; And today most Americans don't give a damn about it, especially compared to Hollywood, that's the problem.
Probably because the Cold War is over so the space race isn't a thing now. It was a political thing and that was it. They should be passionate, but no one is since there is no objective other than really getting to Mars, but we're not gonna pour tons of money into it because we're not racing for it.

Well maybe you're just not as knowledgeable as I am on many a thing...

Seriously though, you can find a reason to bitch over something literally no one else cares about, and just assume and then go "BUT IM SAYING SOMETHING ELSE >:C", so have at it.

So, I wanted to know how Poe got off Jakku.

And how Maz came across Luke's saber, but it is an interesting story, for another time... "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain." Except it would ruin the pacing of the movie if she did. Maybe a short story or comic down the line.
Again

Episode 8 needs a much needed cameo from Johnny Exposition.

I mean, you can mindlessly speculate and assume all you want, it'll get you no answers.

Okay? You act like I don't already know that.
So in the end you're just basically getting upset over an actor without having any backstory, reasons, or even any sense of the real answer behind it.

Sounds like a typical septagon mindset :^0

And he's given to the fans.

"I don't want to do anymore Star Wars movies, make sure I die in the next one."

"But Harrison, that goes against everything we've plann-"

"I. Want. To die."

And to that point, just because a character wants to die, it doesn't mean they're sick of their role. You ever consider some characters are more powerful because of HOW they die? Or sacrifice themselves? Ya know, something poetic? Stop looking at it so black and white and making Ford out to be some money grubbing evil guy.

If that's the case, he's a cunt. If the script was unaltered, then I have no qualms with anyone. I'll just choose to criticise Abrams for the handling of his death.
I mean, you can mindlessly speculate and assume all you want, it'll get you no answers. Some of the old generation needed to die off anyway to give room for a new generation. They couldn't simply just write them off to retire.

Ford owes nothing to Abrams

Are you going to say anything of relevance in this entire conversation?

He doesn't owe the director anything. He owes the fans everything.
And he's given to the fans. Ford wanted his character dead for a while and I'm sure him and Abrams came to an agreement. It's very powerful his own son kills him. That easily sets up great fuel and rivalry and darkness for the next two films.

What else do you want from him?

Also, can we talk about the music for a moment? And how crappy it was?

The trailers had way more badass music than the movie. Nothing new felt any good here.
It wasn't crappy, but it just wasn't as powerful in a lot of cases. I hope these new ones will produce something like Duel of Fates that episode 1 had. If there was one good thing about the prequels, it was some of the music that was around.

Am I a bad person because I don't feel bad when people close to me die?
This is why nihilism is a disease.
Think you're jumping the gun a little. He's not saying he's nihilistic. Hell he could just be a sociopath, but even I doubt that.

People handle grief in so many different ways that you shouldn't be "expected" to act any sort of way. Some people cry, some people try to laugh and move the pain away, some people don't really feel anything for a long time.

Everybody handles grief differently. And honestly, I wouldn't count grandma or cousin someone close since it's usually only interacting with them on a less consistent basis.

I didn't cry when my grandma died or anything, but when my friend committed suicide I did. Point is, the more close/impactful they are to you, the more it is. That isn't to say though that I'm saying you should cry your eyes out.

Some people are honestly just in a state of shock for so long that it doesn't really hit them until way later. Hell, I still don't feel like my friend is gone and that he's just away at a different state or something. It's a very bizarre feeling.

That sucks a lot because it sounds like you guys were at least good friends. How did it happen? If you don't mind me asking.
I'm honestly not sure. She was found unconscious on Thursday morning and just never woke up after. I heart something about heart problems but that is about it.
That's terrible. I really don't know what to say and I know no words can ever really help you.

Just be thankful for the joy she's brought into your world and to others and take some heart that any pain she was feeling is gone. Try to take care of yourself too and what not.

I'm sorry again, that actually just deflated me somewhat.

Let's be honest, it's a generation shift anyway. Yes we have Han here, yes we're paying homage to the originals, but it's time for a new generation to rise.

It's how it should be. Be thankful the new characters are actually likable. A problem with the prequels is that a lot of people thought it'd get better after episode 1, but there weren't many likable characters at all. Obi-Wan was the only consistent good character throughout the prequels if you ask me. And Mace Windu, but we all love Samuel Jackson.

YES THEY DESERVE TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!

You have to wonder whether or not Harrison Ford made JJ kill Han off, or if it was part of the plan the entire time.

I mean, I understand the obvious parallel drawn between Han and Obi-Wan from ANH (both are father-figures for the main character, who see them both get cut down by the main antagonist with their own eyes), but it just strikes me as a bit rushed.

I guess the only way we'd know for sure is if Harrison makes an appearance in flashbacks or maybe the Boba Fett movie that's coming.
Ford didn't want it. It sounds like they're very very roughly following EU with some characters, so you'd think that if Ford was okay with doing more, he wouldn't die immediately upon return. I mean, it's possible that was the plan all along, but it sounds very unlikely.
Harrison Ford has wanted Han Solo to die since like Episode 4 or 5.

Serious / Re: How do YOU judge America?

It's inefficient, has a history of doing good things and bad things... but who hasn't?

You compare countries by their present values. I could easily say America would be a better choice to live than Somalia for a whole variety of reasons, and probably a few  compared to Russia or India.

HDI is a wonderful statistic that can quantify the present value of countries that can be used for a quick spot judgement if you acknowledge it's flaws for qualitative data.
Why are you comparing it to shit countries instead of like, any of the other western nations, and even Canada right above us? The US then suddenly doesn't look as great, but when you talk about Somalia in comparison? Sure.
The Western world cannot be proud it isn't a shit hole? By global standards, it's a pretty big accomplishment. . .
You're not getting what I'm saying. I'm saying you can make the US sound like the pinnacle of society by comparing it to any country in Africa. But when you actually compare it to countries that are just as successful and well off as the US, the US suddenly doesn't have that "American exceptionalism" that people think makes the US better than any country for whatever reason.

These are just one of those things that I can't even comprehend how they're supposed to be funny.
the video is comprised almost entirely of inside humor, so i'm not surprised you don't get it
but that should've been obvious anyway
Plenty of similar ones that aren't just inside humor, though. Like the TF2 Gmod stuff, "youtube poops", the ASDF movies and whatnot. It's random and obnoxious for the sake of being random and obnoxious. I'm genuinely baffled by how there's so many people who like that stuff. I get that this one goes above my head because I've never watched game grumps, but I'm talking more about the style of the video in general.
Are you really baffled that people like that? Can you not see the appeal?
I really can't and never have. Not bashing anyone's taste in humor here, but I just don't get it. I've seen dozens of them over the years and remember watching them ages ago when the genre was just becoming popular. Never thought it was funny or even understood why it was supposed to be.
I find the humor in some when I watch an actual Let's Play, and then I see it get animated later. Though I rarely watch them.

Also, where does Rey even learn the force? It's like she finds out it exists and isn't just a fairy tale, then all of a sudden she's just an expert using it and a lightsaber. No training or anything.
It's implied that Rey is far more in tune with the force than Kylo is. Not to mention that Kylo had just killed off a character that had been close to him, distorting his focus over the force or whatever.
He'd been unstable most of the movie anyway, and it's shown that power falters in the Force when that happens.

I hope Johnny Exposition comes in to explain some things with the New Order and New Republic. Next to nothing is known and while I know the New Order is the Empire renamed (they still had a shit ton of weapons and resources. The Empire didn't just fall after the Emperor did. That's not how it works), I'd like some small history behind it, along with how powerful the New Republic is. Feels like they're just the same Rebels again.

But we have 3 films. I felt it played it safe one too many times, but the groundworks for Ren and Kylo both starting out shit and getting more powerful will be great. Kylo was basically what Anakin should have been throughout all of the prequels. They handled his struggles and emotions better in one movie than Anakin in 2. Looking forward to him coming into his own in episode 5/6 since he'll be turning into a bad ass.

Overall a 7/10. It had that "Star Wars" feel again because it was actually an adventure once again and not just people TALKING about bad things for a few hours and walking everywhere (seriously, in episode 3 when they found out Palpatine was Sidious, they just walked there).

So they have so many signs that Rey is Luke's daughter. Like sooooo many it hurts.

Somebody said they saw Luke's robotic hand on Rey's shoulder as a child in her crazy lightsaber flashback.
I didn't notice that myself though.

I don't have issues with her being his daughter because that raises the question:
who is her mother?
Spoiler
Leia. Sep7agon got it's incest story of the decade.
Some unnamed person but there are so many nods/hints to it that it hurts.

Part of the job, I guess. I had to read through all of them and haven't seen the movie yet. Good thing I'm not a big Star Wars fan.
I wasn't directly referring to you. I meant the people sitting there ready to spoiler it via spam or something, knowing tons of people are excited and ready to watch it.

I know they get joy from making people upset. There is no other point for spoilers. Trying to defend it just shows how shitty your logic is, and then you try and backpedal because you did it in a place you frequent and then realize "Oh people don't want me here anymore?! :(" And they're legitimately upset about it and then get snippy.

Like, wow the train of thought for some people and the lack of clairvoyance is baffling.

7497
I mean, obviously people are going to go apeshit when you post spoilers to something major like Star Wars, Halo, MGS, or the latest GoT.

But is anybody really going to care if someone posted spoilers to the latest Barbie game or some shit? I'm not saying that it's a good idea, but where is the line drawn?
Can you guys really not sit there and see the difference between something like Star Wars and the next game of Barbie?

No because that requires intelligence
It takes common sense.

But the funny thing about common sense IS THAT IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT COMMON WHEN IT MATTERS MOST.

The line is drawn when obviously a shit ton of people care and are excited for it. As in a lot of the world in this case. Can you guys really not sit there and see the difference between something like Star Wars and the next game of Barbie?

It's not that hard.

But yeah uhh, idk why you people are giving the time of day to the guys intentionally trying to get a rise out of you. Not worth getting mad over. Just move on and ignore them.

Everyone already agreed that if you get personal enjoyment ruining things people look forward to, you're pretty much a loser anyway who probably doesn't understand the definition of surprise or suspense.
