These aren't little things like adding new characters in Smash Bros.
This would be like totally overhauling the hit detection in the game and making you download that.
Why would you need to "overhaul" anything? The games aren't that broken, are they?
You'd be surprised. If you look at something like... Madden 08 to Madden 10, it's a huge difference.

Though I hate Madden to begin with.

Graphics should be a thing if its a AAA game developer on a next gen console. Like it or not, it is an appealing aspect. A huge criticism of CoD is how bad it looks because of how old and bad the engine is.
How realistic does it have to get before you say, "Okay, this is good enough for a sports game (that I'm not playing for the graphics anyway)"?
With sports games (in terms of FIFA and, also MLB The Show) it comes down to the very small details that all add up. You can get the general gist of something, but overall the package still fall apart because of the little things. It's the reason EA Sports NBA Live has failed twice now, and NBA 2K has been a success. Things like animations, physics, presentation, movement, sound effects, game mods and how much you can dive in, etc.

I just asked my Dad about it and he said you can't really add the new graphics and mechanics in a patch.
Boom. ^
>caring about graphics
>at all

You can definitely add new mechanics. DLC is made for that sort of thing.

Mechanics wise yeah. Patches can't bring that in. They can fine tune things, but that's about it. But you can't entirely add new things unless it's some expansion tier thing, which you'd need to pay for. But that's still just building on an old already locked in engine.

It's why Total War Rome 2 still has some ugly looking things, despite all the patches they did. It fixed a lot, but there is a reason Attila is better mechanically (it is said it's what Rome 2 should have been).

They don't deserve to make as much money as they do.
You find that the older you get, the more this applies across all forms of media and entertainment.

I don't know, I do think Sports games a lot of times are just roster updates. It's only about 2 or 3 years after another game that there is enough there to warrant a real purchase. It's the same thing as CoD at this point. Minimal effort for substantial reward. Stagnation and lack of creativity in the video game industry is not something you should endorse.

Why?
JUST PLAY THE SPORT

They clog the industry every single year with the same exact game, with an updated roster, and maybe some bug fixes or AI improvements. What they should do is release ONE game--one fucking game--called "Baseball," "Basketball," "Football," "Soccer," and whatever else, and then patch it over time. Because the differences between the games are simply not substantial enough to warrant further releases--but they continue to do this anyway, because they know you idiots are going to keep buying them. It's the biggest racket in the gaming industry.

Also, sports suck.
Your reasoning after "just play the sport" are just, but to tell someone "just play the sport" doesn't hold up to me at all. There is a difference between getting some friends together to play the sport, and playing the game. For me personally, I enjoy FIFA because I can become the owner of a team and dictate my roster, decisions, who plays, and how I build a team. It's fun to me to take a weak team with a low budget, and build them up over time with smart signings, wins, and trades. It becomes a game of tactics almost. And the gameplay itself is something I enjoy, and something you easily can't do IRL. You can't do those tricks and be surrounded by thousands in cheering (FIFA does crowd sound effects very well since it's soccer).

I do think your logic for the yearly release/update thing is a great one though. It's why I say you should buy a sports game over other year or 3 years, because only then are there big changes.

Edit: The reason I don't like that "JUST PLAY IT" is because it applies to other sports too. No one is telling someone who buys a racing game yearly to just go actually do it. There is a big difference.

Here's a game for you to play along with it:

Every time you see a loli pawn wearing silk lingerie, you must take a drink of your strongest available alcoholic beverage.
You're an absolute madman

I never got the less armour = better stats thing some games seem to have. All less armour would do is make you more mobile, not give you better damage protection.

I never really got Skyrim's female model for the Steel Plate armour, either.

Yeah there is a mod which removes the breastplates because, ya know, those things will easily kill you. I never understood there need to throw breast plates on all the armor to say "hey it's a girl!" since breastplates are insanely dangerous on armor and practically asking someone to collapse your chest.

Just made them a bit more thin like that mod does.

Skyrim's designs and thought process for things though doesn't surprise me that they'd do this. And it's where the realism for armor and the medieval setting breaks down (ignoring magic and all that I mean).

Honestly, I was always surprised GOT never tried that with their armour, considering everything else on the show >.>

I think despite the breasts, they kept the armor realistic, which makes me more than happy. Anyone who even does the slightest research on plate armor knows breast plate armor is dangerous.

Deci I honestly forgot I even typed that angry message. Needless to say, I don't feel like that anymore, so don't worry about it.

I always thought it was funny that Gears 3 highlighted that the female models weren't OTT in the sexual department...until you realise there must've been some fine print not mentioning Queen Myrrah:

I suppose they balanced it out with the Berserkers, fuck ugly monstrosities that could tear you a new hole, then rip it in half.
Ehhh, she could be a lot worse.
I think Gears 3 is a bad example with women equality because they try to make it seem they're just as physically capable as men and try so hard to say "WOMEN CAN BE TOUGH TOO!!!"

There are more ways to show how women are capable than trying to make them be exactly like the men. Last of Us did a great job at it actually.

But Gears never had good writing anyway, so does it really surprise me? No.

Just never put any points into Resistance. I said it before, and I know you don't want spoilers, but this is just doing you a favor. It's absolutely useless and negated entirely by armor you can run across.
