A primary is not a caucus, meaning people just go in and vote. Not much of an influence/persuasion. I don't see it happening.

and you could see that pretty clearly in the films, too--i doubt it was intentional, but still

a lot of people talk about how weird and jarring it is that the first two movies are so bright and serene and cheerful-looking, but the david yates films are all very dark and moody by comparison--but that's kind of how life works, isn't it

when you're a kid, everything seems so colorful and fun and wondrous--but when you grow up, you start seeing the world for the scary, uncaring place that it really is

it's pretty perfect tbh
That plus more serious shit was happening.

Yeah the darkness of it, pacing, and all that is great. As well as the time traveling. I liked the 5th one a lot too. I think the 4th was my favorite book, but not movie.

AFAIK, they were basically indoctrinated into putting the emperor first before themselves, kind of like N. Koreans.

Evidently, the leadership didn't care much as japanese soldiers were to commit suicide before capture - never back down and all that.
Japan could have done a lot more damage on the ground if their soldiers weren't so ready to do retarded banzai charges actually

« on: February 05, 2016, 02:30:38 AM »
So we all know in the 30's and into the 40's how territory hungry Japan was, and the atrocities they did while taking such land. I understand their logic was since they're not Japanese, they're 'below' them and all that.

But my question is how was human rights for the Japanese in mainland Japan during the Imperial era? Were they repressed? Normal? Mass suppression of freedom of speech like Hitler times? I understand the Meiji Constitution guaranteed things like freedom of speech, assembly, and religion, but idk if it was exactly still enforced when people like Tojo took rule.

I looked and can't really find any info on the treatment of their own citizens during that time.

That's Dwayne Wade from the Miami Heat

Did you really need to clarify that?
Some people don't know.

Do they live under a rock?
No, it's just that not everyone knows everyone.

Dudes been a superstar for the past 10 years. No excuse.
Not everyone pays attention to sports.

Hes famous. Its like not knowing who Lebron is. Its not like Dwade is just on ESPN. Hes everywhere.
Literally have no idea who any of those people are.
Unless you're not American, I don't know how you don't know Lebron James. The guy is almost always compared to Michael Jordan, for better or worse.

And if you people don't know who Michael Jordan is from something besides Space Jam, kill yourselves.
I do know Michael Jordan and the name Lebron James seems vaguely familiar, but I couldn't tell you what he looks like or what sport he plays.
Well if he gets compared to MJ, then he obviously plays in the same sport, silly.

Annnnnd he must be black.
Considering the NBA has a majority of black people, then yes, odds would be he is black. Same way odds are someone in hockey is white.

Not everyone who says white privilege is a thing = SJW. It's rather silly to go directly that far with it.

"Compromise" isn't an inherently good thing. We don't need compromise, we need more leftist ideals in the government.
In compromise, no one wins

But in a country as large as this, compromise must be a thing. Our government was founded on it, and while it didn't always provide the best ideas, we shouldn't be so quick to shut out other people simply because we don't agree with them.

Now don't get that confused with me saying we should listen to people like Cruz. I personally believe anyone too far left or right (more so right) is crazy. I support Burnie's message because he is bringing to light a lot of the issues with the US, and healthcare really is long overdue for universal healthcare.

It strikes me as odd the "free world" has worse human rights track records than almost all of modern Europe.

So eh, maybe you're right. I do think we might need more leftist ideas. It is long overdue. One the middle class effectively became a minority in this country, and we're classified as an Oligarchy, I do believe we need drastic change.

Serious / Re: Does the number of parties in a political system help?

The two party system has worked for a long time here. More =/= better. Just look at Italy (or is it France?).

The reason things aren't working is because the ideology of each party is going further in the opposite direction, and at an incredibly fast rate. People like Jeb Bush aren't that bad at all. They'd love to compromise, they have their entire lives. But then you get people like Ted Cruz on one side, and Bernie on the other, and you just have two ideologies that are way too far in the opposite directions to really even so much as hear the other out.

You can really trace it back to the Tea Party movement of 2010, and now that Bernie has shifted the party even MORE left with the Democrats, you'll not see compromise on a lot of things. The only difference is the Democratic party is no in disarray and failing apart like their Republican counterparts.

Edit: When I mean falling apart, I mean the moderates of the Republicans are being kicked out and silenced. The ones who DO want to compromise. It's dwindling. Being called a "Rhino" is now an insult.
