skip modding on Fallout 3 and do New Vegas instead

Fallout 3 is super unstable on OS past Windows XP
This

I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet.

Oh how the mighty have fallen... Just when I think Bungie couldn't possibly sink any lower, they decide to go and pull this shit. Even EA hasn't sunken to this level yet. This is just pathetic.
EA's new CEO fixed a lot of their problems. It's Ubisoft that's been the shitty one lately, but Bungie is taking the cake.

I...its a g..game guys

D=
Sorry >_>

it's probably the franchise lore I'm most into, so when I see people say FO3 breaks canon, I know they're people who have personally never read the terminals or wiki about it.

The thing with Fallout, as well as just... other popular games, is that they're loved when they first come out, and then hated over time.

Seriously, everyone loved Fallout 3 when it was first around (I mean in general, so the idgit saying he didn't like it can SHUSH). When NV was coming out, SO MANY PEOPLE were saying it was just a cheap DLC add on thing that wasn't worth $60. Over the years it has shifted. The original fans found something more true to home, and the Fallout 3 fans enjoyed it for the most part as well.

Why it got this weird stigma of "one over the other" is one of the things Fallout fans are amazingly stupid for. Naturally Fallout NV is better mechanically wise, because it IS a sequel. It wouldn't be doing its job if it wasn't. Though me personally think the radio host, music, and world of Fallout 3 was a shit load better than NV. I still love both (and all) of them.

The simple fact of it all is that opinions change over time, people rally and are swayed behind the popular opinion, and now that is what we're stuck with. Same happened with Limbo and Bioshock Infinite as well. Both games massively loved when they were first out the first year or so, then the internet started nit picking at everything and made them both seem shitty, which they're not.

That's not to say they don't have their flaws, because they do (like BS: Infinite's gunplay), but to say they're awful is just the typical haters of the internet looking for something to bash onto.

and so while Fallout 4 may be canon it's still likely that diehards will find some flaws in it worthy to consider it non-canon again.
Old school Fallout fans should get over it really. As much as it "breaks their canon", they need to face the fact that the series was dead without Bethesda picking it up. Nothing will change and like my previous post said, it fits the lore.

There is a difference between not liking something, and saying it's not canon.

Gaming / Re: i am roleplaying as a black man in Fallout New Vegas

why is the Fallout community so split over whether NV is better or worse the Fallout 3?
Because Fallout 3 was essentially the half-serious revival of the series, with most of the issues referring back to breaking canon and general line of story (set in the East Coast, friendly Brotherhood, Enclave's robot president-in-a-bunker, retarded Supermutants, etc) while FNV tried to correct or incorporate these errors to cover it but had it's own issues due to time constraints (lack of depth for Caesar's Legion - game shows them as black 'n' white  bad but with added cut/imagined content would have made them as grey as the NCR)

Also Fallout 3 had a more struggle to survive atmosphere which everyone but diehard fans loved, while FNV took a more realistic but slightly less interesting restoration and revival atmosphere.
There was nothing really canon breaking about it at all. It all fits in with the lore if you actually read the terminals. There is another Brotherhood that is more or less friendly as compared to the west, and they're called the Midwest brotherhood.

A faction of them being friendly isn't too far fetched after all of that. You basically have the conservative ones (West), moderate ones (Midwest), and very far out ones (DC). West wants all by themselves, Midwest is harsh like the west, but also friendly in recruiting as well, and DC is more friendly than all. The FEV thing for mutants also makes sense because it was one of the vaults. It just wasn't as well done as the west so they're far more aggressive and different in tone.

The Enclave bit makes sense too because they retreated to the west, and even though people paint them out to be evil and too black and white, I like to remind everyone that the SAME PEOPLE in Fallout 2 tried to use the FEV on the ENTIRE ATMOSPHERE, thus basically killing everyone other than them, and making the planet probably extinct entirely of life.

Die hard Fallout fans (or retarded ones) might claim FO3 isn't canon, but everything said in it DOES fit in terms of lore. And sorry, but the US is a little over 2500 miles long. Of course things are going to be different on the east and west coast. Hell in Europe in the old days, there was different culture a little over 200 miles away, so to think everything would be the same across the entire country (the west being in similar conditions/circumstances to the east) is just downright stupid.

I would think a game like Doom would be different then say, Red Orchestra. Just because they're both FPS's doesn't mean they're the same. Too many variables.

That's like saying all fighting games are the same. Over simplifying is doing it injustice if you ask me.
you could argue that all fighting games are the same, and i wouldn't really have much of a problem with it

what i'm saying, though, is that fighting games, even though they're pretty same-y, have a much higher level of diversity than FPS games do
I can agree with this. Recently all FPS's have had the same feel, so when one comes out that feels different, it gets more attention.

Can we all agree that military FPS's are so saturated on the market now? I'm surprised there isn't as much fatigue with it as there should be.

You said military shooters, thus only narrowing it down. Stupid.
Yeah that's true, they all do feel the same at the very end of the day. Very few really feel different.

And hey, leave FIFA alone.

I'd say I'm bored with military shooters but I'm playing through Wolfenstein >.>

Although I don't really play them often so there is that!

there sure are a lot of them though
Wolfenstein is different though. It offers a cool alternate universe. I just mean this whole "MODERN DAY MILITARY/FUTURE MILITARY SOON!!!!" crap.

Shogun 2, and Empires is really great.

Rome: Total War is a great one to get into.

>Shogun 2
>anything but great

shiggidy
As cool as a lot of stuff is, the 1v1 only combat thing really kills it for me, along with the AI being arguably as retarded as its Rome 2 counterpart.

What do you mean by 1v1 only? Multiple players and factions can engage in the same battle.
Sorry, guess I should have had more clarity.

I meant the actual in game fighting with soldiers. When they run into each other, the only way they can die is 1v1 animations that play out between the two opposing people, and it looks silly a lot of the times when they're just sliding around a bunch of enemies, only for them to finally engage another in a predetermined animation.

In the older games like Medieval 2 (arguably one of the best) and Rome 1, they fought together as a unit in formation, and didn't engage 1v1 always. While it looked less realistic because they could just be randomly hit from behind and the animation would look silly, it did represent more so how a battle would work. They'd work together in formation and could actually get double teamed and screwed over.

Rome 2 had it even worse where formation didn't even matter (as it broke down the moment you attacked), charges never worked because they always stopped right before they hit the enemy, and a bunch of other problems.

The problem is the engine was designed with Empires in mind, and that had guns and not melee. Think of it like this. So instead of games like Rome 1/Medieval 2 where the bridge was old, worn out, and didn't look too pretty, it still got you across the river. It got the job done. Where as Shogun and Rome 2 were just a log tied down by some rope and the moment you stepped on it, you fell under the fucking water. By the time all the patches came out and they tied more rope to the log, they may as well have made the fucking bridge to begin with. The battles were just silly, and the AI was even more retarded than previous installments.

They fixed a lot of the issues in Attila, and it's not just 1v1 anymore, along with an assortment of other issues, but there is no doubt in my mind that the older engine was just better equipped for the style of game they were trying. Let's just hope the new stuff like Total Warhammer, and other various games (I hope for a Medieval 3) will look further into this.

Anyway, sorry for my rant.

I would have honestly preferred a 2nd one with new levels, weapons, and characters, than a remaster. It doesn't really call for a remaster considering the art style of the game is so well done that it doesn't look that dated at all.
I don't understand when people say this. Obviously essentially porting over the old game doesn't take the effort, time, manpower or money that a whole new game does. These remasters are how smaller companies can fund new games
Give me CC 2 then after this port.

Then again, this is the same game company that is bewildered why there is demand for Bad Company 3, so who fucking knows what goes through their heads.
My guess is the people who worked on BC1/2 are far gone from the company at this point. Ever since Battlefield 3, Dice has been in this circle jerk to take Call of Duty down and stay rooted to the MODERN WARFARE without trying anything really creative.

It might just be military shooter fatigue in general though. The market is WAY too saturated with them.

I've played both Battlefields and came away pleasantly surprised with how Battlefront looked. I was expecting an exact clone but it seems they're doing enough to make it different.

Besides, as much shit as this is getting, at least the game is coming out. Would you rather have Lucas Arts still be around pushing another Kinect Star Wars?

People will never be happy.

What's so bad about the first two?
They're different and play like Wasteland, which isn't bad. I don't think any original Fallout 1/2 lovers are crying about Fallout at this point. They seemed to have loved New Vegas enough.

I do agree that the series needs changes and a step ahead.
