>2014 >still thinking having southern pride is white power
People seriously make me laugh. I've seen and known blacks that display Confederate battle flags and have pride as a southerner. It's not about racism; it's a culturally identity of restricting an over-reaching national government that contradicts what the Constitution says. Being pride of heritage shouldn't be something negative, it should be a positive
Nah it's just racism.

I don't buy it. People will jet start having kids like crazy and we'll have a good problem. Unless of course we start making food less for pleasure and more for sustenance.

In Europe?
Holland. Good beer, kinky sex, hot women and legal pot.
Yeah no. It's a very conservative country and pot is barely legal over there. It's not the party land stoners make it out to be.

I believe they deserve respect and should be treated fairly. That is on the hand that a race of android like beings are created. If we are truly stupid enough to do such a thing in the next few hundred years, I fear for humanity's future.
But yes. They're not machines, however. I still hold the opinion we should not EVER create a race of intelligent beings. We are still far too primitive to play god. We should keep our machines dumb, specialized, and useful. If that makes sense.

You have to look at the long run. Doing something now that may not seems like it changes anything could result in a huge change over the years.
I suppose it depends on your perception of it. It seems like a worthwhile trade-off to mine eyes.
Some things aren't.
What's the point of anything if we aren't us anymore?
"Us" is such an abstract concept to me as to be inconsequential.
I am me, and you are you. Whether or not my perception/mind/intelligence is in my skull or in a metal case or somewhere between the two, it makes no difference to me.
Where it is does not matter. How our brains process information matters.

I don't know. Out of all the stars and planets, there's bound to have been one that started off roughly the same time as us. What do they look like? Why do they even want to make contact? Do they have curiosity? Are they violent like us?
I'd say it's best if we kept to ourselves for now. We're too weak to take on people (or whatever there is out there) more advanced than us. The risk we run into a species far more violent than ours isn't unlikely.
Who knows. We may even be far more alone than we know.

Chances are, some race has found us and put a big old NOPE sign on our planet. A planet run by a bunch of hairless apes running around killing each other seems scary if you ask me.
Any enterprising alien race should realise the fantastic opportunity to indoctrinate and breed an army of this bunch of hairless apes.
Oh God. . .
What if we're all currently in training?
lol We may be another species' experiment. This entire planet.

That isn't my point. My point is we can prosper without compromising our humanity. Becoming cyborgs is not what we need to do. Nothing is inevitable. I, personally, would fight until my dying breath to stop something like this from happening.
Machines don't deserve rights. I don't care how sentient it is. They're tools.
I'd argue it isn't at all compromising one's humanity.
Directed, self-imposed evolution? It's practically godhood.
There are improvements to be made. Curing disease, death. But not the things that make us human. You have to look at the long run. Doing something now that may not seems like it changes anything could result in a huge change over the years.

Oh yeah I was wrong earlier. I was thinking of a different intercepted signal. The Wow! signal hasn't been disproved.
But do you personally think it's legit?
If they haven't been able to disprove it after 35 years then I would say it seems like a good sign. I'm probably way too much of an optimist when it comes to the extraterrestrial life discussion.
Is it even optimistic to think that there's intelligent life out there? Is it not pessimistic?
Any species evolved enough won't be exploring the stars out for blood. Chances are, some race has found us and put a big old NOPE sign on our planet. A planet run by a bunch of hairless apes running around killing each other seems scary if you ask me.

Robots are the bane of humanity.
Getting rid of what makes us human is wrong. We can travel the stars together, not as hybrids that couldn't hold a candle to a real human being. A human being doesn't need fancy cyborg technology to prosper. We got to the top of the food chain throwing spears around, god damn it. We can do anything if we stopped getting into petty fights and really worked together. I refuse to see my species become a disgusting half breed. What slows us down brings us together. Do you think we'd be here now if we didn't need to hunt for food, work together to make and find shelter? You're damn right we wouldn't. Our weaknesses give us strength far beyond any technology to "improve" ourselves can. We need to keep our machines separate and non humanoid. They're machines for us to prosper, not for some fucking future hippies to protest rights for. We make robots like you see in the movies, and we're screwed.

35 years later we responded to the signal by sending 10,000 Twitter messages in the direction of the origin of the signal in order to show the potential lifeforms that we are intelligent. not the best idea
10/10 it's a solid post -IGN

I'm really serious, though. We can not incorporate robots into our lives like that. It's a terrible idea and could very well mean the end of humanity, because I guarantee that it will go too far.
We may not be extinct, but what's the point in surviving if we meld our brains with robots or become robotic in nature? Removing the necessity to eat and sleep? The need to even relax in the first place because we've found a way to mess with the chemicals/whatever that cause stress?
We've all seen how simple ideas and concepts have become things like the atom bomb. We need to learn from our mistakes, and not lose our humanity in a blind quest for progress.
