Really though, moderating can be easy if you want to do a shit job of it. Case in point would be Bnet where they have to sift through hundreds of reports every day (Probably thousands at the moment) so they get responded to with a nice 'Ban or Ignore' efficiency. Which is pretty poor moderation to most people because it tends to be a lot of summary execution style stuff rather than spending time to resolve conflicts or break up fights before they start.
If you want to keep a smaller site like this one alive, you can't just swing the hammer around willy nilly.
However, if you give that kind of power to the wrong hands, they can get all power hungry like Kiyo. 1. Obviously, the axiom stands.
2. A nice bit of misinformed opinion there, kiyo wasn't power hungry she just made a few too many mistakes and/or rather major problems. But sure, demonise the former staff because they must all be nazis.
As a moderator from RA I was alright, but as soon as I became Admin, I got really greedy and wanted quality over quantity. It was one hell of a drama fest. This is post b.next btw. RA?
So if Cheat's going to get a new mod in town (unless this was a joke and I'm an idiot, it's probably a joke and I'm an idiot) I say go right ahead Cheat. As far as I know there are no new moderator positions on the table at the moment, but this might change in the future.
Get the new guy going, but if he fucks up and gets all power hungry, petition time! Sure, lynch the new guy because he made a mistake, what a great enviroment to encourage learning and becoming better at moderating! Or would that more likely start a culture where people cover up their mistakes and banadu people to keep them quiet? hmmmm
So for the sake of discussion, what would you do if you were a Sep7 mod?
I'd quit because lol I'm not moderating this place, you might as well as forget it.

It really has gotten old. Banning people was novel for a month or two, but now it's just like janitor duty: something that has to be done for the site to function.

Before, I really didn't want to be banning folks for small misconduct; we're a tight-knit community and we all know each other. But those small things add up, and before you know it, you have people getting away with stuff they ought not be.
So yeah, I don't know if you've noticed, but people with long warning histories have been getting immediate 4-7 day bans, and if they kept it up it would go to a month, followed by a perma. So I'd have to disagree with you; we're being more critical of people who just don't get it.
Oh shit. Nevermind then. Well, now I'm gonna have to be careful from now on. Can't speak my mind like crazy like I used to.
