The Flood / Beta testing: Sep7agon Supporter Nameplate
« on: April 04, 2015, 05:00:51 PM »
Inspired by the idea of longface to donate to Sep7agon, why not include a nameplate for donating? So I went ahead and gave this a try:

Spoiler

The only reason why I can't test it myself is because I'm Heroic. So pretty much anyone that's legendary/mythic. Can you test this out and leave feedback?

Notes: Originally the supporter nameplate was going to include the original Sep7agon nameplate but with the word "supporter" added right next to it, but that seemed too dull.

The color was gold at first during editing, but I figured that would match the color of the admins too much confusing people, so I went with green as in the color of money.

Any feedback is appreciated. I don't know if Cheat will ever implement a donation system for sep7agon, but I like the idea of having a nameplate for a year or 2 and then the nameplate expires, the bonus would also be that you have no ads. Of course the nameplate would be toggled, but when the nameplate expires you'd have to donate for example $25 for one year to get it back. It would be setup as a request nameplate option only except you donate instead of giving a reason to get the nameplate.

So yeah, let me know what you guys think about this.

Update: Version 2 now available. The change is I decreased the bit of the glow and made the color scheme more of the original instead. I did not alter colors this time. I used the color picker to get the glow color to match the color of the actual sep7agon logo.

Update 2: Made another version favoring back to the green. New logo used instead of the Sep7agon logo itself. I really don't know what I'm doing anymore lol.

Update 3: Revised it a bit.

Update 4: New logo, changed the green a bit.Took about an hour.

Update 5: Changed the glow from green to red. Replaced the logo with just a heart.

Update 6: Made it pink, it's what Cheat wanted.

Update 7: Toned down the glow because making the heart transparent didn't work.

Sep7agon needs microtransactions
$0.50 for an upboat!

And yeah, I've thought about it. It might eventually happen, too, but I don't currently have any plans to open up donations. That's not to say I'm against it, but right now I have other stuff I'm working on and the ads are adequate for keeping us afloat for now.

That said, SMF does have a premium membership feature that would make this really easy, so we'll just see. Would any of you guys actually be interested in donating like $5 to $10 per month if it disabled ads for you?

Implement a supporter title for $25 a year with ads disabled for us and I'm in. Newgrounds does this to stay afloat.

OH! Even better! Supporter nameplate! I'll make one now!

Put !important at the end of every one of them and see if it works. If you're trying to override styling that is already there, yours needs to take priority.

color: #5a5a5a;
color: #5a5a5a !important;
No, it's just that I've no idea where I'm supposed to put it. Should it be over <div class="nav">, under it, or in it?
The style element goes in the <head>, but you'd probably be better off just linking a stylesheet to make things neat.

Code: [Select]
<head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" />
</head>

And then name your stylesheet "style.css".
I don't want the style itself, I want the color and the rest, not the style. All of those things but the style. For it to work without the style. Without the style, it doesn't work.
I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about. If you don't want to link a stylesheet, then put your <style> block you have there, with !important placed at the end of each styling, inside the <head> of whatever HTML file you're editing.

Cheat has no idea what to do either?

*hits the panic button*

40 years old and they're huge.

Not surprised. I mean come on. A vast majority of the modern world relies on Microsoft products. I'm even using Windows 8.1, Microsoft Office 2013 and Microsoft Games.

And let's not even start with the Xbox and Xbox 360, though that is a separate division now in Microsoft.

I really wish the franchise wasn't heading towards this direction.
Being written better?

343 has butchered Halo. I don't even consider it canon.
By making a better story? Oh. Then let's get the writing staff from those guys who wrote Destiny to make it better amirite?

Making Cortana an annoying clingly cunt and Chief fucking running his mouth while being hunted is not a better story. 343 has turned Halo into a sappy space opera without the cool unique shit Bungie could add.
As opposed to the annoying Cortana shit in Halo 3? She was rampant in Halo 4, so she's like that for a reason and not just because "lol fuck it".
And Chief has always been more than a one-lining dudebro space soldier in the books. His portrayal in Halo 4 is far more similar to how he is in the books.

By the way, Halo has never been unique.

I get that's how he was suppose to be in the books, but in way the game's story was written wasn't even similar to the books at all.
Umm, what you just said makes no sense.

The way the story was written is more of an amateur fanfic than an actual story imo.
Halo 4? Even though it brings in and acknowledges Extended Universe canon?
It's objectively one of the better written stories in a Halo game for multiple reasons.

I kindly disagree, but, your opinion.
Hey, Halo 4 was pretty mediocre when compared to the other Halos but its story was better written for the most part. Halo 2 comes close but it was incomplete which is sad.

I still say for me, there are only 3 stories in the Halo universe that define Halo. Halo Combat Evolved, Halo The Fall of Reach, and Halo First Strike.
So Halo 2, 3, Wars and ODST never happened?

They did. It's just when I tend to think Halo, more of the original game comes to my mind than anything since I grew up with it. Still feels new to me to this day.

Like each time Halo is mentioned, I always have flashbacks of CE. For me, CE is the definitive experience. Halo 2, while I did like, along with 3 and ODST, the mechanics really changed. I'm not saying that's really a bad thing because it still was Halo, but it somewhat lost that feel that the first game had. I mean unless Halo 5 wins Game of the year, so far Halo CE is still the one holding up. It's the only game of the year title in the franchise, and yet it has so many flaws regardless but it's still considered amazing for everything it has.

ODST actually is the closest to Halo CE in some sense. The return of health packs, fall damage, the pistol scope, only difference is you're not a Spartan.

But I guess the reason why I like Halo CE more was because it was just that definitive experience when Halo was just establishing it's identity and wasn't exactly what it is today. When I read The Fall of Reach or heck even First Strike, if these books were games, I'd say they would have been created in the same engine as CE and it would still bring that charm in there. Halo The Flood is combat evolved in book format at least.

Anyway, all this talk about Halo CE makes me want to play Halo Custom Edition while listening to the Halo 1 Soundtrack.

My nostalgia glasses are on too tight today. I just can't get enough.
Well I never said that CE was bad...its the backbone of Halo so I would never say anything wrong with it. I just said that it had a good but simple story, that's all. Halo 2 was more complex bringing in the Covenant point of view and Halo 3 well...I liked it but it was straightforward. Halo now is embracing its lore, which I find it to be good.

I guess I can understand that since there is more of a story told now, but I just wish this wasn't what's going to happen instead, but alas. I can't tell the devs to change the story now.

It's just hard for me to find the current direction to be cannon. I'm sure some people actually felt the same way with 2 and 3 even though I thought they were done well.

I guess we all have that point where we feel like we want to change elements of the story if we don't like what we see with it. That's kind how I felt with 4 and 5.
Halo 5 is not even out, so I don't know how you can form an opinion of it just yet.

I'm from the future, where Halo 6 just got announced. <_<

:P

It's just my educated guess with where Halo 5 is heading, a prediction if you will. I don't know Halo just hasn't felt the same for me in a very long time. Starting from Reach that is. That's why I play the older games instead.
Reach never happened. lol

See? I agree. Bungie really fucked Reach up storywise. I was expecting Blue team with the Chief from the book, but they kicked all of us in the teeth with Noble team.
I just dislike how they disregarded the Fall of Reach novel completely.

Likewise. It really pissed me off when I saw the second trailer and Chief wasn't even mentioned once. I couldn't even take the game itself seriously. This was Bungie's way of saying "fuck you, we don't wanna do this anymore so we're going to fuck up our last Halo game intentionally."
I thought it was going to be about Chief's origins in game form...but nope. :(

Indeed! I was so aggravated. When I found out, this was pretty much my response to Bungie...

There's someone as strong, as fast and as dangerous as the Master Chief himself going after him with orders given by ONI
To be fair, Chief is actually a pretty average skilled Spartan. There's already others that are faster, stronger etc etc than him.
Still, the Chief is like one of a handful of Spartan-IIs left and seen as the best of them...because he stopped galactic genocide...twice. Locke is a Spartan, a more advanced Spartan, and seeing him going against the Chief seems pretty interesting.

If you ask me, even in the books, I find it beyond ridiculous how he always lives every situation. His luck just never runs out, it's fucking insane.

And as for the current story, what is Chief the villain now? In the past, Chief wanted to save many people as he can, that was his mission, even in Fall of Reach. He was always pushing himself to save his team and get them out alive, this was before he was paired with Cortana as well. Now after losing Cortana he decides to go rouge and will kill the very organization that trained him and has been on his side for years?

If that's the case let's bring the alternate cannon to light where Chief kills Captain Keys real early in the game causing Cortana to rat on you by getting invincible marines to pretty much kick your ass dead.
Of course Chief is not the villain, we still have Jul, ONI and the Flood running around. And no, he's not trying to kill the UNSC, he's looking for answers. Locke was sent by ONI, an already messed group with shady secrets and shady everything. Hell, if the UNSC proper found out the shit that ONI is hiding Lord Hood would send a contingent of Spartan-IVs to apprehend Osman.

And who's to say he's not with Blue Team? He left with them at the end of the Next 72 Hours after finally beating the Didact for a second time. Makes more sense why Locke has a team of IVs and the Arbiter helping him, they are going after the Chief AND Blue Team.

Okay. Here is what I really don't get. Why the fuck is the Arbiter helping Locke? In Halo 3, Arbiter is the Chief's Ally, what caused him to just turn the table on Chief all of a sudden?

And the fact that all this shit about ONI is now in the lore, causing ONI to be an enemy of the UNSC, that only makes the cannon even more problematic. I'll admit, I think ONI was a massive joke when it was written into the lore. I didn't even like it when it was mentioned in ODST.

Once again.... I hate the direction this is heading towards. I kinda wish it wasn't going there. The cannon could have used a better route.
Well Locke is just going to the Arbiter for advice since he knew the Chief better than anyone else (Johnson is dead and Halsey is well...missing). Arbiter doesn't even know why the Chief left and might be wanting to know why.

Now I know that ONI is a lot shit, but it at least gives the story some spice other than just aliens and rebels fighting the UNSC. Its like an internal problem, much harder to get rid of because they're like Edgar Hoover, they hold most of the cards.

What about The Flood? There are other Halo Rings left right? Forerunner Flood is the direction I would have taken.
Halo 4 already hinted on the bigger thread, the threat that made the Didact desperate and that was coming. And besides, this is just the beginning of the Reclaimer Saga, there's still a lot to be answered, right now Chief is looking for answers like we are. And from the looks of it, Mendicant Bias holds the answers or at least hints.

The Reclaimer Saga is what this is called? Well that explains why it feels really different from what to expect from Halo.

Too bad the mechanics get changed with it.
What's wrong with the Reclaimer Saga? 343 already said that the Original Trilogy's story ended, this is a new chapter. New story. The aftermath of the Human-Covenant War.

I think the problem is there was a massive gap between the original trilogy and the Reclaimer Saga, maybe that's why I have a hard time digesting the new games and trying to accept them in my mind as cannon.

There are times where I do wish I just had a memory wipe of the whole game, where I never played the first game, because my outlook on the new games isn't fresh. It's poisoned with nostalgia from the older games, even story wise. I try to enjoy it but it's just so damn hard to find acceptance for it.

I guess it's kinda like knowing a child for years and then missing that child growing up only to find them as an adult and he/she has completely changed, and your mind just can't register that because there is a gap that you missed.

Maybe that's why I feel this way with 4 and 5. There is a big gap that hasn't been filled.
Ah, I see.

Well there will be a gap in between Star Wars Episode VI and VII, doesn't mean that Ep. VII is not canon or will be bad.
In all honesty, who knows? It's either going to be pretty good or it's going to be a thousand times worse than the prequels.

Anyway, I really wanna play some Halo Custom Edition now.

I think the previous games had something more that 343's is missing.
And that is?

Charm. Even in the story.

Just play CE and ODST again and maybe you'll know what I mean. Especially CE.
