Gaming / Here's the full details for Fallout 4's survival mode
« on: March 31, 2016, 12:08:39 PM »
https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/fallout-4s-all-new-survival-mode/2016/03/29/96

Full post in link. This sounds absolutely brutal, and everything I wanted in New Vegas' hardcore mode. It's just a shame I'm not on PC to play the beta. I'm looking forward to the console release.

Here's the relevant bits:
Quote
Saving with Sleep: Manual, quicksaving and almost all autosaves are disabled. To save your game, you'll need to find a bed and sleep for at least an hour. This means your fallback options are reduced, forcing you to be more concerned about what you are walking into and whether you’re prepared to handle it. Some fights you may deem above your level and decide to avoid. Other fights you may decide to go all in. Scouting and gathering information to make this decision can be fun in its own right. Also, when beds are your only means of saving, they become the Holy Grail. With that level of importance tied to them, you will scour the Earth to find the closest bed to your next chosen encounter – and in doing so you will likely discover things that you might have otherwise missed.

No More Fast Travel: Fast Travel is disabled. If you wish to be somewhere, you'll have to get there the old-fashioned way. In other words, exploration is now mandatory, exposing more of the Commonwealth’s secret gems. This will also take you out of your comfort zone, but encourage you to take advantage of the well-placed workshops throughout the Wasteland. And, while Charisma may seem less important to your immediate survival, there are certain Charisma-based perks that make managing your bases less painful.

Increased Lethality: You now deal, but also take, more damage. You can increase the damage you deal even further with "Adrenaline" – more on that in a moment. This makes combat more dangerous, which in turn slows you down and gets you to think about what you’re walking into. Combine this with it being much harder to save your game and suddenly each encounter becomes much more tense and dire.

Combat itself is also more strategic, because both you and enemies are more powerful; this means fights are about trying to use positioning and timing to get in your shots without taking enemy hits. This has an even bigger effect on melee players, who will now need to use their block/parry to keep themselves from taking damage during fights. While this change raises the skill necessary to play, those who opt into Survival know what they’re getting into.

Facing the Unknown: Threats, unless added by a Recon scope, no longer display on the compass, and the distance at which locations of interest will appear has been significantly shortened. You can no longer rush through the world, knowing what’s around the next corner. At the same time, you’ll likely explore even more, in order to ferret out any and all locations.

Adrenaline: Adrenaline, a new Perk that comes standard with Survival Mode, provides a bonus to your damage output and is increased by getting kills. Every five kills increases your Adrenaline rank, adding 5% bonus damage for up to an extra 50% damage at the max rank of 10. That extra damage is alluring. Adrenaline motivates the types of stupid decisions that always lead to the best water cooler stories. (Sleeping removes anywhere from 2 to all 10 ranks of Adrenaline, depending on the time you’ve slept.)

Wellness – Exhaustion, Hunger, Thirst: You'll find it difficult to survive without taking proper care of yourself. You must stay hydrated, fed and rested to remain combat-ready. Going for extended periods of time without food, water or a good night's sleep will begin to adversely affect your health, hurting your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats, adding to your Fatigue, lowering your immunity, and eventually even causing physical damage to you. This will affect every decision you make, because you have to consider your overall and ever-changing health. The drive to simply stay alive might push you into new and unexpected adventures. At the very least, you’ll likely find yourself hunting for valuable meats, triggering encounters with dangerous wildlife. But not everything you can consume is good for you: Certain items in the game now have negative consequences to balance out their positive effects. These counter-effects may make you thirsty, hungry or tired and possibly even hurt your immunity, leaving you vulnerable to Illness.

Fatigue: Fatigue mostly comes from being tired, but both hunger and thirst also affect it. Fatigue works like radiation, but affects your Action Points (AP) rather than your Hit Points (HP). The more Fatigue you've built up, the less AP you'll have for actions like sprinting and V.A.T.S. The amount of Fatigue you've accumulated is displayed in red on your AP bar.

Everything Matters

It’s not just the big changes that alter the way you play in Survival Mode. We also made adjustments to all kinds of items and conditions.

Bed Types: The type of bed you're sleeping in limits the length of time you are able to sleep, thereby limiting how much you can recover. Real beds – which are hard to come by in the world – offer the highest bonuses for sleeping; this rewards you for working out of a home base or even spending the caps for a good night’s sleep.

Also, finding a sleeping bag in the middle of a dungeon will feel great… finding a dirty mattress will feel even better… finding a real bed will be like winning the lottery. You know all those spots where you can use Workshop mode in the game? It’s time to start building beds.

Illness & Antibiotics: There are several different Illnesses that can affect you. Your base chance of getting sick increases as your average Wellness decreases. Antibiotics can be crafted, bought or found, and alongside doctors, can heal your current Illnesses. Certain things in the world, such as taking hits by certain creatures or using Chems, may immediately give you an Illness. Also, Stimpaks are no longer the fix-all miracle drug, so make sure you’re prepared!

Immunodeficiency: Items that cleanse your body of Rads come with the cost of making you tired and temporarily damaging your immunity, leaving you more vulnerable to Illness than usual. By adding a negative effect to RadAway, we are pushing you to only use it when you really need it.

Slower Healing: In Survival, restorative items, like Stimpaks and food, recover your health at a significantly reduced rate. You'll need to time your healing precisely if you hope it will last.

Crippled Limbs: Crippled limbs will no longer auto-heal after combat. They will remain crippled until healed by a Stimpak or slept off. This not only makes combat tougher (and more strategic) but also puts a further tax on Stimpaks.

Carry Weight: Your total carry weight has been reduced and items like ammo and Stimpaks now have weight. Bullets and shells have a small amount of weight, which varies by caliber, while missiles and mini nukes are quite heavy. Everything you carry now must be carefully chosen, and you’ll have to weigh power over volume when it comes to things like ammo.

Painful Encumbrance: Exceeding your carry weight reduces your overall Wellness, quickly building Fatigue, and will eventually cripple your legs. You can’t hoard a whole bunch of items, then make the long, slow trip back home – which, to be fair, isn’t that fun. Just set the loot aside and be free.

Companion Costs: Carry weight for companions has been decreased and they will no longer automatically get back up if downed during combat. Instead, they will return home, if abandoned without being healed. So don’t hog your Stimpaks, and don’t turn your friends into mules!

Likewise, if you’ve already downloaded Automatron, your new Robot companions will need to be closely monitored. If you forget to use your Robot Repair Kits, they will return home.

Enemy and Loot Repopulation: Locations you've cleared will now repopulate with new enemies and loot at a significantly slower rate. So head out into the world and find new locations!

Serious / NASA has to make an unmanned mission to Europa, by law
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:53:17 AM »
It's old, but it's an interesting article. Basically, the US government gave NASA a couple million extra to upgrade their Europa flyby mission (The ice-moon of Jupiter) to one which will land a rover to search for alien life, despite NASA never even asking for money in the first place for the mission.

Article for lazy people
In a rather intriguing twist, it appears that NASA is now mandated by law to fly a robotic mission to Jupiter’s watery moon Europa. Europa is an incredibly exciting science target, as it’s believed to have a 100-kilometer-thick (62 miles) outer layer of water, with water ice on top (it’s very cold out there) and a liquid water ocean beneath that. It’s believed that there’s more water on Europa than the entirety of Earth, despite being just a quarter the width of Earth. As we continue to learn more about the tenacious lifeforms found in deep, cold waters here on Earth, excitement grows over the possibility of Europa’s oceans harboring extraterrestrial life.

Up until the ’70s, the prevailing theory was that all life on Earth was dependent on energy from the Sun (i.e. everything ultimately revolves around photosynthesizing plants). Then, in 1977, an exploratory dive in the Galapagos Rift discovered giant tube worms, clams, and other crustaceans that survived without any access to the Sun. As it turned out, they were feeding on bacteria that got their energy from hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide emanating from underwater volcanic vents. There was a whole food chain down there that didn’t rely on the Sun at all. Cue much excited theorizing about the possibility of finding life in Europa’s massive oceans.

Europa (bottom left), Moon (top left), Earth (right) – size comparison
By the time the Voyager probes had flown through the Jovian system in 1979, scientists were fairly sure that Europa had an icy crust, and possibly a liquid ocean beneath. Further investigation by Galileo and New Horizons have provided yet more data (and some lovely images, such as the one at the top of the story, captured by Galileo). Now, we’re almost certain that there’s liquid water on Europa — and so the next stage is sending some kind of robotic probe or rover out there, to do some real, up-close-and-personal science.

And this is the weird bit: It seems, thanks to Houston Congressman John Culberson, who appears to be a bit of a science nerd, that NASA is now mandated by law to develop a mission to Europa. Culberson is basically forcing this mission upon NASA: In 2013 and 2014, despite NASA not requesting any money for a Europa mission, Culberson gave it $43 million and $80 million respectively. In the 2014 budget bill, finalized in December, there’s not a single mention of Mars or the Moon, but Europa’s right there on page 159. Culberson is expected to become the next chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee, too — and if that happens, NASA may find itself very flush indeed. This is rather refreshing, after years of budget cuts/stagnation!

In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Culberson had these rather uplifting words to say about Europa in specific and space exploration in general:

If I’m successful in becoming chairman of the subcommittee that’s going to be right when the Europa mission will need its maximum funding. It needs to be a flagship mission. The biggest and best we’ve ever flown … I got on this incredible committee where I will be in exactly the right place at the right time to be able to help turn NASA around, to not only preserve America’s leadership role in space, but I also hope to be a key part in discovering life on another world for the first time. We’re only going to have one chance at this in our lifetimes. We’ve got one shot. I want to make sure you and I are here to see those first tube worms and lobsters on Europa.

As for an actual timeline for those first tube worms, if they exist, it’s still very, very early days. It seems, after two years of having money forced upon it, NASA finally caved and actually asked for $15 million in 2015 to help plan the Europa mission. All we really have to go on right now are the words of NASA’s CFO, Elizabeth Robinson, who said the launch could come as soon as the mid-2020s — probably after we launch the next Mars rover in 2020.

We are living in interesting times! Who knows, maybe it won’t be the next generation of space telescopes that discovers the first instance of extraterrestrial life — maybe it’ll be a NASA rover, right here in our own Solar System.

I thought I'd bring it up as over the past few months, we've had a lot of pretty cool stuff happening with space exploration; landing a probe on a comet, discovering the presence of liquid water on mars, gravitational waves being confirmed and the recent launch of a new probe to land on mars, and I'm interested in what people think of space travel and research in general - does the possibility of being able to import water from the outer solar system and mine practically infinite materials from the asteroid belt make investing in space infrastructure worth it in the long run or do you think that NASA/ ESA and other space agencies are a waste of time and money that could be spent somewhere else? I'm interested to see what people like Meta think about this, as there's a couple of people who post on serious who I've never really seen post their opinions on this kind of thing.

Gaming / XBL ate my money
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:25:23 AM »
I bought the FO4 season pass yesterday to download the first DLC only to find the content wasn't loading in-game. Deleted Automatron so I could reinstall it, only to find the season pass and DLC weren't in my ready to install box. So I went on the store only to find it was saying I have to pay for the season pass and apparently I didn't have it, despite it being on my MS account transaction history and having a billing confirmation email, so I'm about to ring xbox support - wish me luck ;-;

So there you go kids; never buy anything from XBL because it eats your money. Fuck digital.

Gaming / Mass effect Andromeda delayed to Q1 2017

Mass Effect Andromeda has been delayed from its original holiday 2016 release date into Q1 2017, according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen.

Speaking during Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, via NeoGAF, Jorgensen was asked to provide the status of EA’s upcoming non-sports games. He said Mass Effect would be coming in EA’s “fourth quarter” EA’s fiscal year ends March 31 so the game could launch sometime between January and March 2017.

“We’ve got a great year ahead. We’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called Titanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand. Both of these are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast, action-driver shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that quarter. We have our Mirror’s Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead and we’re pretty excited,” Jorgensen said.

Mass Effect Andromeda was announced during EA’s E3 press conference last year, with an expected Holiday 2016 release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Details of the games’ plot, multiplayer mode, and more were reportedly leaked in a survey.

Jorgensen’s comments also confirm Titanfall 2’s release date as a Q3 2016 release. Previously, Jorgensen said the game would launch in EA’s “fiscal ’17” but recently McFarlane Toys unveiled a line of Titanfall 2 toys expected to arrive alongside the sequel in Winter 2016.

In related Battlefield 5 news, recently DICE confirmed it is working on a new Battlefield. Other than a Holiday 2016 release date, EA has not revealed any details regarding the new Battlefield game. However, a recent retailer listing hints at the possibility of a World War I setting in Battlefield 5.

TL;DR Mass effect delayed until next year, Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 5 getting releases this year.

I'm guessing that big thing of a bunch of bioware employees leaving a while back must have really affected development.

Gaming / Titanfall 2 is gonna have a single player campaign
« on: February 08, 2016, 05:20:41 PM »
Original article

Tl;Dr -

-It will be multi-plat (Playstation included this time)
-Single Player Campaign is in the works
-There is the possibility of a TV series
-They're about a year in development and expect the game to ship april next year-ish

Gotta admit, the inclusion of single player excites me. Titanfall's world is one that interests me, moreso now Halo has turned into space fantasy, whereas Titanfall feels a lot more grounded and gritty. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the sequel.

So muse are performing in manchester in early April, just a week after my 18th. I'm trying to persuade my friend to go (We're both massive fans of the band) but he's being a stubborn arsehole because it's £50+travel expenses (It's an hour away by train)

What should I do to persuade him to go? I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.

I wonder what they'll be showing. I imagine some Fallout 4 DLC, maybe some DOOM and Dishonoured 2 stuff, but I can't imagine that will be it.

Hopefully, we may get another Fallout game for 2017 by Obsidian like NV to Fallout 3, but I'm not holding out for a announcement.

Your thoughts?

Gaming / Is Witcher 2 worth playing?
« on: January 24, 2016, 01:09:23 PM »
It's free on BC for a limited time right now, so is it worth getting?

Would it require foreknowledge from TW1 to understand, and how well does it fit with TW3?

Furthermore, is the combat and general gameplay a good way to understad what TW3 is like? So, if I end up enjoying/ not enjoying this, would I then have a good idea of what my opinion of 3 is?

It's free, so it's not like I'd be losing anything. Nevertheless, I don't really want to waste time with it if TW3 is massively different to it.

Gaming / Another Half-Life 3 "leak"
« on: January 12, 2016, 01:18:06 AM »

Spoiler
Quote
I got permission from /u/baconlovr for the opportunity to do this. I just want to say thank you, because I know attempts at this have been done more than enough times, and the status of the fanbase and the monolithic status of Half-Life 3 can get really tiresome. Let's give a round of applause to him for the moderation of this community. Also he has a really cool name and one that I as well, owe a lifestyle too.
There have been around 8 or 9 cases of information on this being 'leaked' out, but I think all attempts have been put to a heavy stop every single time.
I'd like to start this off by answering something everyone reading this has in their minds:
Half-Life 2 Episode 3 has been cancelled. The project has turned into a full fledged title confirmed to be Half-Life 3. Half-Life 3 is the official title and has turned very well into a standalone game. Well sortof. It's complicated.
Who am I and how can you trust me?
I can't say anything about any of that. But you'll start to realize this isn't false information once I get into detail, so put down the pitchforks. Or raise them high, just don't poke each others eyes out.
Why am I doing this?
I'm excited, simple as that. Everyone who has put a hand in this game is extremely excited. There has also been a recent event where doing this has become a much easier thing to do than ever before in the past, and it's about time to get this information out.
When is Valve releasing Half-Life 3?
I'm not entirely sure when Valve is ready to unveil anything relating to Half-Life 3 or if they are even going to in a traditional manner (from what I know there is 0 marketing being worked on), but the game is nearing completion. Well, sortof. It's complicated.
The structure isn't like Call of Duty where its linear and single paced. It isn't an open world rpg like Fallout or anything. It's.........different.
There are a few areas from the world I know about. There is a jungle type of environment, a desert kind of environment, and some urban environments and an area of rolling hills. There has been development and experimentation if you will with world generating dating back to at least 2008, but it's been put on the side and isn't the focus for Half-Life 3.
It's still being worked on but there are a lot of reasons for why random world generation isn't being used for this title. Nobody in the office is having much satisfaction with it and it can't replicate giving an environment with a heart and soul much like a hand crafted one made by humans (what a weird thing to say right?). But it's still being worked on.
Staff have discovered why a title like Minecraft is flawed in its presentation. The locations and different climates, the dungeons, they're all key and essential parts to fabricating a world for players but they're all a giant mess and most of it you just never see or appreciate. Moments that leave you in awe such as staring at a large mountain in the distance as you leave a dark cavernous area for the first time, just can't get that feeling replicated no matter how much effort is being put in, and it's too hard of a gamble especially with this game in particular.
The game is fabricated to be VERY reactive to player choice and decision making. There are no forced cutscenes that break the pace of the game and put you to a stop. Instead you can still freely do as you please and fully interact with everything that goes on story wise and cinematically. Nothing really feels like a cinematic, it more so just feels like stuff that happens to be occurring with what you're doing. For example, a character is sitting on a chair talking to you and if you start walking they will get up and respond to you.
Extensive research has been done on the problems with modern games and open world games in general. The biggest problems that have been addressed are repetitive dialogue and singular scripted events. These are things that are finite in place but can be vastly expanded on with current day technology.
For example. Grand Theft Auto IV and V and Red Dead Redemption, they all feature dialogue spoken by npc's in reaction to you or others in their environment. A man could say to you,
"Eat a dick clown!"
That same man also says, "What are you smokin'?"
But these single phrases are among a very limited range that when blended with other npc's kind of blends in. But if you invest many hours into the game you'll start hearing sentences you've heard a hundred times or more by that point and it will really start to negatively impact immersion and the feeling the player gets from enjoying a game. It's like how the "arrow in the knee" story from Skyrim became among infamy as a joke.
So with Source 2, there is blended dialogue. What this means is that lines are recorded and single words are recorded. The GTA npc can not only say the two lines above, but also say: "What are you smokin' clown?" Or "What are you a clown?" And maybe afterwards they would mutter something under their breath like "Eat a dick already."
Not only this, but the pitch for any npc can be altered and changed depending on their mood and general behaviors and interactions with them. Irritate an npc and you will hear the tone sound more annoyed and strenuous.
This is all dynamic and done with Source 2 on the fly. You will never hear the exact same sentence ever again. Just like in real life, doing an exact replicate of something somebody said is impossible, because of factors such as tone and differing vocabulary and variables at play that trigger these things to occur. This is why Valve has been working very closely with many experimental & young filmmakers, and acting instructors & theater talents from some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, to receive as much input and criticism towards this as they can possibly get. I can't include any names unfortunately.
Physics puzzles are gone and are instead more of an optional sort of thing, but are generated for you based on your decisions.
You could have recently gotten a pistol and are in a jungle. The world will generate puzzles for you to choose to interact with, but they are not in-your-face and at times are a lot more subtle than one would think but once a player is used to the environment in the game thinking logically to find the puzzle is half of the puzzle itself.
Okay that was a mouthful so I'll explain:
You just got that pistol and are in the jungle, you walk through and stumble upon a massive gap between you and a ledge. There is a tree across from you, and if you shoot something on it, it will give you a path to take across. If you take alternate routes they may be more challenging than the one taken via the random puzzle given to you. They more or less serve to teach you how to use your weapons after acquiring them, thus the reaction of the environment and your choices. Things are presented to you for the weapons you choose to use. Everyone's experience will be different and unique. And it's randomly generated for you.
Events that occur in the game's world and story driven events have a multitude of variables. Everything has variables. There are largescale events and smallscale. How these are dissected is completely on the fly and almost completely randomized.
For example, you're walking across a hill and the largescale event is that you see Alex in a helicopter being kidnapped. The smallscale events are anything if and before or even during. Okay so you could walk towards that hill and there are a few Combine soldiers that you fight. Then you see the heli with Alex. Or, you see the heli first with Alex, then an army of Combine rolls out with tanks and a full infantry coming after you.
This in turn keeps you on your toes, and keeps the game fresh, near impossible to get old. It also helps improve when people die repeatedly making the same mistake over and over again, because they will always be presented with an almost different scenario. Plus different dialogue from everyone, every single time.
This doesn't just apply to story driven aspects it applies to everything. And the largescale events can differ themselves. The helicopter may fly in a different direction, it may or may not fire at you, it may or may not drop soldiers out to attack you, etc. this was inspired a lot by the random events of open world games, where things happen to the player but only a finite amount can occur. The dragons that attack in Skyrim will always attack in the same manner and the only random smallscale events that can occur are interactions with wildlife or fellow npc's, but even then they're in a totally different ballpark. And the same case can be said for all in this example from Red Dead Redemption, when eventually getting your horse stolen by the same guy gets old and breaks immersion. This remedies that.
Extensive research has been made to fuel Source 2 and Half-Life 3. As time progressed it gave more time to look at modern games and find what they do that we can improve and change. So it has really worked out, because we can look and see and observe, and find creative new ways to improve these things.
The biggest titles in particular that have been researched are the main Rockstar titles and the Euphoria physics engine, and open world games in general. MMO's have been researched as well, but that in particular is an umbrella canopy for a lot of things that are actively being worked on and improved at Valve as well. I hope that makes sense.
The music Kelly's been recording and working on is being made to be a dynamic score, or at least most of it is from what I know. What this means is that player interactions, choices, and movements will effect the music they hear. However this is also put in the control of the AI. So pedestrians and survivors and enemies can trigger certain music to be heard and blend together to create a really unique soundtrack, that will also never get old or tiring or repetitive.
I put this in bold because THIS is how Half-Life 3 and Source 2 are going to change games, forever.
Source 2 is really to thank for all of this. And with that in mind comes the physics and destructibility. Chunks of buildings can be torn out, and near everything has some form of producing particles and "breakdown" to it, even people.
Picture a car being picked up and then thrown into the corner of a brick building. The car actually goes inside of the building, with collision shaping the metal of the car, shattering the glass and creating "spider webs".
The billboard topples over onto the ground, then the building starts to crumble and demolish. As this occurs, bricks topple onto themselves and outward onto the streets, glass is crushed, and cement is broken into chunks. All of this randomized and the building being fully enterable and interactive from the start by the way.
And after the demolition, the AI can interact with this. They might take the bricks and use them as weapons amongst themselves. They can also take refuge inside of the broken down building. There could be a large room type area in the rubble blocked by steel beams. Days later you come back, you could see that instead of steel beams there is now a door and inside are survivors.
And their home fixture was thanks to you.
The extent of the particles and breakdown, the car is the best example. Every single part of the car can be broken down and dissected. The tech demos of Source 2 are demonstrating the capabilities to those that have seen it in every demonstration. Everything is put together and fabricated like real world items.
Temperature is a factor too and reflects on a lot. For example if it is very cold, glass will become more brittle and easier to break, whereas if it is 700 degrees the metal will start to melt and the rubber will stick to the surface and melt down.
There is also a connected experience that involves everybody that plays Half-Life 3, that effects environmental changes and explorable areas. Its like a "bookkeeper system" and makes a lot of content become dynamically introduced instead of downloading chunks, like what you do when you play online games with custom maps.
Story wise I know nothing at all. The G-Man has a larger presence than in all of the previous Half-Life games combined. I think you get to play as the G-Man or something similar to him with the bookkeeper system but it's beyond my knowledge. I also know nothing about the Red Herring ARG aside from the fact that it happened and upset a lot of you.
This game is not being made for VR or with VR in mind. VR will be served as an extension and with the random generated voice acting and lines and interactions the world and people will give you, VR will really immerse players into this experience. There are also broader forms of communication that can be persued. Both of these in mind we have learned from extensive research can actually help those with anxiety disorders, social and learning capabilities, and the disabled.
I hope I explained this thoroughly and clearly, it's a lot to take in and a lot for us to keep amongst ourselves. I can safely say that while the fan base and internet seems excited for Half-Life 3, WE are the most excited in the world. So many of us have put in so much hard work and time and effort to make this the most amazing experience that we can.
The product may release this year, the biggest factor that I've heard is marketability. Not for Half-Life 3 to be a commercial (?) success, but for one that doesn't hurt others' sales. Of course, we might need to add more work to the product and engine. But I hope you understand why it has taken us so long. The radio silence was largely due to the fact that there is a very unsettling tension amongst staff when suddenly there is a realization that we have to change a lot after announcing or telling everybody we are going to do something and it is going to be amazing. But I assure all of you it will satisfy and deliver for any and all fans of interactive entertainment. Hang in there, it's coming sooner than you think.

I remain unconvinced as of now, but apparently the guy did present enough evidence to the mods to make them consider it legit. Regardless, it does bring some interesting ideas to the table for FPS in general.

Thoughts?

Gaming / Bye bye halofollower
« on: January 11, 2016, 03:06:36 AM »
Well, halofollower is basically dead in the water.

It's a long read, but essentiallly, pretty much all the follower staff have left after chris decided to return after a year of not doing anything and refused to pay his staff. Can't say I'm too displeased about this, hopefully this will mean the channel will finally die off now that all the people who did work on it are moving to other places to do work now.

Gaming / Gaming laptops
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:29:47 AM »
I'm considering getting a good laptop right now. Not to play stuff like Battlefield, just old-ish games like Fallout 3/ Vegas, Skyrim, the old Battlefronts and some smaller indie titles I've missed out on. Not massively intensive stuff, not like modern AAA's or anything.

Anyway, what kind of price range am I looking at for something like this? Google hasn't been very conclusive for me.

Oh yeah. I'm getting a laptop for a few reasons. Mainly I don't have the space for a desktop right now, so eh. Plus, laptops are portable.

The Flood / My house is about to flood
« on: December 26, 2015, 05:30:24 AM »

For those who can't tell what the picture is, that's a farm that I can see down the street. The river here has burst its banks so that field is currently under 2ft of water (Fpr ypu americlaps who don't know, The North has been experiencing very heavy rain for a few weeks now - it's been raining heavy here since yesterday mornng non-stop)

A couple people nearby have already flooded, so we've moved all the essential stuff up out of the cellar in case water starts dripping in.

I'll probably keep this thread updated until it gets to the point where we have to shut off the electricity. Just thought I'd share my day.
