Dude, nobody gives a shit about your personal hobbies after your regional equivalent of high school. I can say "I like watching anime" to chicks and they won't even blink. What's important is that you're a self respecting individual who's actually doing something with your life. Sure there's a couple misconceptions and I might get a question now and again, but it's fairly easy to clear up. You'd also be surprised about who's watches it. A few months ago I ended up having a three way discussion about Gundam, DBZ, and Inyuasha with a muscle bound pharmtec, and a cynical chick who was going into law. Like the filthy Nasufag I am I recommended Fate/Zero since it seems to be a good entry point for a lot of folks who either are into the basics or not into it at all. I don't know if they actually watched it, but they seemed interested in it. OT: AoT is the better of the two on the account that it isn't pure teenage wish fulfillment garbage.

So after skimming this thread for real responses I'm going to throw out some advice for dudes and ladies who may be uncomfortable speaking to other people IRL while not having any problems online.
Now this may not actually help since it's all anecdotal evidence, but get a job where you have to interact with the public while you're in school.
Not only are you forced to interact with the public in a sink or swim kind of situation, but you'll make contacts through work that'll get you invited to parties that will further expand your opportunities and interactions with IRL person to person contact.

I'm not shy at all. I'm too talkative.
It was intended for people who clam up when talking to people IRL.
