I'm just going to point out that Peggy Noonan is on the board of trustees for a a fairly large and well known conservative think tank as well as being a special adviser to the Reagan administration and has campaigned for Republican candidates in the past.
I'd take what she says with a pinch of salt since this is going to be looked at through the lens of someone who stands to gain something by making a hit piece on democratic candidates. Some things are likely to be distorted or exaggerated.

Well to be fair he's not wrong. MSG, palm oil, high fructose corn starch, extra sugar or synthetic sugar, "zero" calorie shit.
Canada has it in everything. So the states would too since the two countries are such close partners. This particular avenue is not made up. They dump MSG into almost everything.
Which every modern country does with their prepackaged foods to help keep them "fresh" and to retain their flavor for long periods of time. You didn't think prepackaged goods in Europe and Asia stayed that way with good wishes and baby giggles did you? There's a difference between saying this country puts stuff in their prepackaged foods and saying this is the only thing this country produces when there's tons of easily accessible data that proves otherwise. Especially since the US is by far is the worlds leading exporter in produce. I'm not trying to sound like one of those "patriots" that wank it to the stars and bars, but if you're going to hate on the US I'd prefer it be because of something it's actually done.

What are we qualifying as American food? Is fast food included in this and being used as an example? Why aren't fast food joints that represent other types of food being included if so?
When you make things your self like say burgers and various forms of BBQ using fresh ingredients they turn out to be pretty tasty.
I can understand why people would dislike American food if their exposure to it was via fast food that's chalk full of preservatives and other nasty crap to keep the cost down and the food long lasting in storage though.
American food is either pure lard, sugar, MSG, or high fructose corn syrup, and saying otherwise is heresy.
