Fate/Grand Order is a free to play mobage/enjoyable time sink where you progress through a VN-lite style of story while fighting in a turn based KoH Chain of Memories like combat with your waifus and husbandos from TYPE-MOON's Fate franchise that you obtain from spending either your Friend Points (FP) or Saint Quartz (Quartz, Jew stars, et cetera).

FP is obtained freely from summoning either people on your friends list (for 25 FP) or random people (for 10 FP) into your support slot. Saint Quartz is obtained from completing story missions, free missions, interludes, and certain event dailies. Oh and you can buy it if you're a freaking whale.

If you don't have an android phone download an emulator like Bluestacks*, Andy*, or MeMu. Once that's installed you can either download QooApp to access the Japanese storefront or make a Japanese Google Play Account. Search for Fate/Grand Order from there.

*While Bluestacks and Andy are good emulators they does have a partnership with some mobile game devs where it wants you to download one of their games every so often if you want to continue using it for free. You can either find a hacked version of Bluestacks that removes this altogether, or you can delete the data for BS-Services in your settings for Bluestacks and close the instance of BS-Services whenever it starts up and asks you to sync your data. Mildly annoying, but you're using it for free and not downloading anything so its better than nothing.

No, you can get by without reading runes just fine. You just wont be able to understand the story.

Yes and no. For some classes (such as the saber class) rarity correlates with strength. Gilles de Rais is flat out the worst saber class servant in the game while Arturia and Atella are the best (at the time this was written). However for other classes this isn't true. For example Stheno and Carmillia are 4* servants, but Hassan and Kojiro (being 2 and 1 star servants respectively) out class them in every way. To illustrate further Medea and Cu Chulain are two really strong servants that are better than half of the 4*s despite only being 3*s themselves.

The FP lottery contains 1-3* servants, xp, Fou cards, and craft essences only, the SQ lottery contains 3-5* servants and craft essences.

A Craft Essence is essentially an item that you can equip to a servant to power it up and give it a special passive. Examples being +200 ATK and +25% damage from buster attacks.
