yeah but what if making more money is a negative ?????????

in our current society it takes money to make art. so if you want more art to be produced you have to support the people who are actually making it. not the people who are looking to double or triple dip for pure profit on the same piece of art while the actual artist makes very little by comparison.

this is the anatomy of a $60 retail purchase. Valve takes 30% of a sold game on steam which is slightly higher than your average physical retailer. however when you remove the cost of distribution, console platform royalties, and return (unsold inventory) that goes back tot he publisher/dev instead which grants them $42 of a $60 purchase instead of $27.
great

and

i'm sure you realize

that this doesn't apply for games that are not available on steam

e.g.

any game that's actually worth playing

we're obviously talking about multiplatform games here if we're comparing the amount of money the publishers/devs make on a console sale vs a pc sale. console exclusives don't play into this conversation at all.

dark souls for example makes more money per copy on PC than it does on console

buying second hand does nothing for devs and publishers and is pretty much no different than a pirated copy for them.
one copy of one game only needs to be paid for once

the unauthorized reproduction of digital copies of games is in no way comparable to reselling one already-paid-for copy that hasn't been reproduced in any way, but cute attempt at a "gotcha"

you didn't pay the devs for their work though so it's really no different in their eyes. the retailer instead got to double dip on the same copy with the devs and publishers seeing nothing from it.

to give a breakdown of how this works the retailer usually seeing about 15 USD from the sale of a new game. when they turn around and sell that same game again for $50 they're pretty much getting the equivalent of 2 new games sold from that single one copy sold which is the cause for retailers pushing used games so heavily and trying to get people to turn in new games as soon as they beat them.

why not play it now i have the means to? if i don't have to wait 6 months for something to go down to 40 i won't. buying a new game is a non issue for me.

Not sure why you're trying to start something over me supporting developers and publishers via legal means.
if that was your original stated purpose for buying games new, then i would've respected that

but in general, it's not hard to find used games cheaper than retail price less than a month within any given game's release

used games don't support the developer though as the only one who makes money from a used sale is the retailer. it's a double win on the PC because you both support the developer directly and get them for a cheaper price due to them not having to take up physical shelf space and having a near nonexistent shipping and packaging cost because of their digital nature. you might even call it a triple win since devs and publishers actually get more money from a new pc sale than they do a console one.

to illustrate what i'm talking about with long run price savings i'll compare my steam and xbox one collection.

i've got about 40 games on my xbox one and 116 on steam. about a third of my xbox one games were given to me for free so for to make things simple i'll say 30 of those 40 games i paid for. over the few years i've owned my xbox one i've paid about 1,800 USD for games and we're not counting any of the DLC or XBL i've bought over those years either. during the entire time i've owned my pc i've probably paid about 500 USD for 116 games which has saved about 1,300 USD in comparison.
that's why you don't buy games new you silly fuck

why are you buying 30 brand new games over the course of "a few years"
i have the income to do that?
>willingly spending more money than you need to play a game on console

your ps4 is also sold at a loss and the loss is made up from developer licensing costs, game sales, and subscriptions like PSN. at this stage in the console life cycle you're really not going to be able to build a more powerful brand spankin new PC for the same price as a a console. you'll have to wait a couple more years for that to be the case and even then with the current market i'm not sure how that'll play out since we have no idea how long chinese bitcoin farms will be causing the price of high end GPUs to rise through the roof. typically your cost saver with a pc is going to be on the long term since you can normally pick up games cheaper on PC than you can on console and you don't have to pay a subscription to play the online portion of most games.

seeing as how this thread has kind of turned into a clusterfuck i'm going to go ahead and grant the request to lock this. if deci decides to remake the thread stay on the topic of his advice. if you have a problem with what he's posted take it apart and tell him why he's wrong.

I'm out of Quartz and it feels like the income is slowing down hard

you can get 5 sq and a ticket every week right now so between the log in bonuses and whatever events they put out between chapters you should be having a steady income one the ball really starts rolling on content

cu was nerfed cause kotomine used a command spell to keep him from killing people so that + artorias luck stat cause gae bulg to not kill instantly. this is also the reason he wasn't wiping the floor with emiya in their first fight. when cu got to fight for real he facerolled him. the only knight class servant emiya can go toe to toe with is gilgamesh because he's a perfect counter to him. cu, artoria, and even kojiro were able to either beat him or fend him off without really even taking damage.

if you want to fight gil you've gotta use someone that either counters him or can stand up against him brah. so if you don't have emiya, summon someone like enkidu, heracles (as an archer), or karna.

also ea can be countered by avalon and fragarach.

the archer class really just encompasses all ranged weapon using servants. you don't actually have to have a bow to be in it. just like how you don't have to actually ride a horse to be a rider or use a lance to be a lancer.

emiya didn't really regenerate either. he went into spirit form to conserve his energy and then used the last of it for the kill shot on gil at the very end which is why he dissipated minutes after

The say what now

fate

nip franchise that recently exploded in popularity due to anime adaptations of it's visual and light novels. basic premise is that mages summon legendary figures from human history to fight it out and obtain a knock off of the holy grail. it belongs to a greater universe of works referred to as the nasuverse. i guess think of the marvel or dc universe, but much better organized.
