Sound like Riot is caving too.
Isn't riot pretty much owned by Tencent?
Yep, it's no surprise.
Really scary how much influence China has over western economies and cultures.
People go on about the threat of Russia, but China seems like a much greater one to me.
China is not as bad as people think about it, at least I think chinese actually have better living conditions than russians. Also Russia also has it's influence, it's just focused at Ukraine and dealing with sanctions right now rather than west entirely.
The standard of living may be better, but it's still an authoritarian state that imprisons people for their religion or political dissidence. Russia has influence but it isn't so intertwined with the economy of my country that it can leverage its wealth over our culture in the way the Chinese are able to.

w/e though, this is a meme thread. Don't wanna go on about politics.

Is there any advantage to holding onto engrams or is it fine to just redden them whenever?
Just redeem them. Their power level is locked when you acquire them.

Haven't seen it but I heard it's really good.

The sensationalized media fear mongering has been pretty amusing though.

Why would you want to remove a game mode you aren't forced to play?

there's literal Exotics and weekly rewards held hostage behind it.
But they're made specifically for crucible aren't they? If pvp didn't exist then those rewards would've never been created to begin with.

Basically every forum turns out this way if there isn't a consistent influx of new members. It's not likely that so many people would continue to visit a forum after five years. Only a small percentage of users stick around that long.

AI is the future, we just need to make sure it's the right people in control of it.
I think the most important thing is making sure it doesn't gain control of itself.

"We" as in the US? Because millennials here and in most "western" nations are already having way less children than older generations.

I hold a very low opinion of catharsis.
Well that's pretty clear.

Still, it's a valid point for people to rant nonetheless.

I don't think the purpose of catharsis for most people is to have any sort of realization of anything, it's just a short-term relief of the rage built up within them. It, more often than not, seems to me to be a more selfish, self-serving act just to make a person feel better.

When I said I think you're selling catharsis short, I don't mean that it's more positive than you're making it out to be, I'm saying it has more utility than you seem to suggest in your first post about it.

Although, catharsis can come in a positive form.

at that point, why even make a thread, he's obviously not here to discuss his beliefs, this is a political board not a political blog
Venting is cathartic.
it's catharsis devoid of meaning, a hollow feeling that will only need to revamped once he realizes that his moment of self-actualization was inepiphanous. Then he'll just make another thread and the cycle will continue at the reader's expense.
I think you're selling catharsis short. It can be the difference between someone managing to cope with their emotions or snapping and doing real harm. It's not supposed to be about coming to a realization of anything, it's just a release of tension.

Better to have someone ranting than hurting someone else or themselves.
Fair enough, but that's assuming that this actually led to any sort of relief. It's just as likely that someone posting a rant like this walks away feeling even more vindicated in their intolerance, more hostile towards "the other" (in this case, the fabled far leftist SJW PC libtard NPC soy cucks), and more angered by how everyone else is too stupid/brainwashed/incapable of coming to terms with "the truth" (in their eyes) that they just dropped. Venting can definitely help in some cases but I'm far from convinced that a rage fueled rant about how the other side is so fucking disgusting and vile that you fucking fear getting thrown in jail for saying the wrong fucking thing because stupid NPCs and leftists are gearing up for another fucking civil war is something that calms you down and makes you feel less aggressive towards those who disagree.

Besides, whether or not you resort to physical violence is a pretty extreme standard for this being a good thing. Rant away if it makes you feel better, but if you decide not to listen to people who shed light on clear misunderstandings and mistakes you're making, then the only thing you get out of it is feeling more entrenched in your beliefs and intolerance. Better than violence, sure, but obviously pretty shitty either way.
I'm not saying his rant was effective for him in any way. I'm just saying that there's a reason people do things like this. Solonoid seemed to think it was entirely pointless.

Also, when I say it's a release of tension, I don't mean that it makes you hate your perceived enemy any less. Punching someone in the face can be cathartic, and it's pretty much the opposite of trying to hate someone less.

Ranting about people you hate isn't an absolute guarantee that a person won't resort to violence, but I'm definitely a believer that if people don't express the way they feel, even though it may be hateful, then violence will be a more common consequence.

Pretty hypocritical of a republican administration that is supposed to be for smaller government and deregulation, but republican politicians have always been authoritarian when it comes to drugs.

I'd love to see the drug war end within my lifetime, but there is so much invested in it that I don't expect to.

The Flood / Re: The Popeye's chicken sandwich
« on: September 12, 2019, 10:00:43 AM »
Somewhat relevant to the consumerism topic.

We got our first Krispy Kreme place in Ireland. It opened in the town where I live. It was very popular. Lines went on like they were giving out szechuan sauce. They also had a 24 hour drive-thru and this was a mistake. People would turn up and then blast their horns in the middle of the night. So they had to close down the place after 11 till 8.
Something basically the same happened when a Cook Out (fast food BBQ chain) opened in my old town.  The line wrapped around the building, out of the parking lot, down the street, around the corner at a stoplight and then went on for a while down that road, causing a big traffic jam so everyone else had to squeeze by in the other lane on what was one of the busiest avenues in the entire town. They were open 24 hours as well but that didn't last long.

Speaking from experience, I'm just gonna say you might end up wishing that getting fat was the worst thing that happened to your health if you keep eating unhealthy all the time.

The Popeye's sandwich thing just seems like a trend to me. One that some opportunistic people have latched onto to hate on Chick-fil-a. It's been a big target ever since that one executive donated to some Christian organization. Some people, I feel like, just get swept onto a hate bandwagon without even really knowing why. The kind of people who are more so followers of others over going their own way.

I disagree with Verb on so many different levels, but I can respect the fact that he seems to have certain principles that he follows adamantly, even if I personally don't fully understand or subscribe to them, and he goes his own way even though he gets all kinds of flak for it. He definitely doesn't seem to hesitate to show people what kind of person he really is and what he believes in so props for being real and not putting on a front to try to "fit in."

instead of just throwing pills in my direction.
Our circumstances may be different (not entirely sure), but this mentality that doctors have is so fucking infuriating. The very idea that pills might not be a cure-all seems so foreign to them that they brush aside your concerns no matter your reasoning. Can't tell you how many times I've heard, "You just might not have found the right treatment yet," and it pisses me off everytime.

If you haven't found THE RIGHT ONE after 15+ times, then I certainly know better than you, doc.
The thing is, it was actually meds that were supposed to "help" me that ended up contributing to the condition I have and making me even more sick than I already was. I actually know the exact treatment that I almost certainly need, but it's a very new and niche treatment that isn't widely available, and even if it was, it's most likely astronomically expensive like everything else in American medical care so I wouldn't be able to afford it anyways.
