Oh... I just thought something about drinking made you want to commit suicide. it was because up until that point, my life was all about being a straight-edge guy who would never do something that irresponsible--and then i did it and i couldn't take it back that, plus all the other bullshit that was happening at the time (and still persists to this day), i didn't really enjoy the idea of living anymore (not my life, at least) i got over it when i realized how much it would affect my family

Though I've never actually attempted suicide, I've been at a point where my death not only seemed comforting, but inveigling. That is to say, I really wanted to do it. That was after I got drunk for the first and only time.

In terms of the involuntary, there was a kid in my elementary school who got picked on all the time, and one day, he snapped, and without warning, started tossing chairs and desks (with astonishing vigor and strength) across the room at a bunch of students, one of which nearly missed my head.
I wouldn't have been severely injured, but he did send at least one kid to the emergency room. Oh damn, what happened to the kid that did it? Was he expelled or suspended?
He was only suspended, but for the entire year. We never saw him again anyway.

Well fuck, I completely agree with you in those terms. Yeah. Oh, not to mention the mutual trust factor. Not being private allows you to become more trustworthy than someone who is, I've found--but in exchange, you have to trust the person you're divulging information with. So, I mean, it's always healthy to have someone who you can open up to. The "trust no one" mentality is honestly quite juvenile, and I've grown out of that years ago. Again, it makes sense politically, but socially, I don't think it's compatible.

As an addendum, accounting for my awareness that we only need privacy because of corrupt government policy (or, more aptly, corrupt human tendencies), I'll just say this.
Have you seen Karate Kid? I know, I know. Bear with me. Mr. Miyagi taught Daniel karate, why? So he didn't have to use it. I felt like that was the most important quote in the film, and it applies to the issue of privacy as well. Of course, he does use his karate--many times--because the world around him is filled with belligerent assholes. It's not a perfect world.
That is the extent to which I believe in one's right to privacy. You can have your privacy--again, I won't force you to reveal everything about your life to me (not that I'd care about a great deal of it). But in a perfect world, no one would even give a fuck about anyone's interests. We wouldn't have to be so private about anything.
And I recognize that that's not the world I live in.
Forgive me for wanting to emulate it.
