Gaming / Re: Whats your GOTY?« on: December 31, 2014, 01:00:11 PM »Alien IsolationI've had a lot of people tell me that game gets boring about half way through. How exactly does it work? It just seems like hiding from an alien over and over could get boring... Meh, as a fan of retro horror games [which can sometimes have a lot of repetition], and Alien, Isolation was right up my alley. I see how others could find it boring halfway through but the encounter design is excellent throughout and the AI itself [on hard mode] makes every experience engaging in its own way. It helps that it captures the aesthetic of the Alien franchise perfectly as well. 756
Gaming / Re: Halo 5 MP First Impressions/Suggestions« on: December 31, 2014, 12:18:33 PM »Yep, you can shoot grenades. It's cool as shit is you know how to use it to your advantageIt was the last game I played, does the game have theater? If not, then no. All I can tell you is that either he had the fucking Holy Hand Grenade, or the grenades in general are ridiculous. I'd guess the first, from what you said. FEAR makes me <3 this feature. [Though it was in previous Halo games too, not just making a statement about H5] Also because PW are on a static timer it's possible to CE style equip an entire team with power weapons lmao, just saw a stream where some guy had 3 PBs on his team 757

Grenades are certainly not OHK, but this can happen [getting shot while being naded makes it seem like one grenade killed you]. 765

I'm expecting the shit reviews to come pouring in soon enough. Quote Halo BanPoint There was a thread up a few days ago where people were complaining about how the [relative] lack of aiming assists was unfair to longtime series fans lmao 771

Serious / Re: Anti-natalism« on: December 30, 2014, 08:58:48 PM »It's impossible to defend outside of circular arguments that end in "no, it just is."Well, I mean, I'm not really sure what else it's supposed to say, but just every single day, I'm reading about some shit tragedy that happened overseas, or about the last meth bust that occurred in my area. Entire countries--entire continents, damn near--living in absolute squalor. And then I look at all the so-called "good" on Earth, as well. What? iPhones? Robert Pattinson's hair? The $750 million dollar Hobbit films? That's worth the suffering of millions? I don't think it takes a mathematician to see the imbalance there. I'm referring to the premise that suffering itself is intrinsically [or worse for whoever's making the argument, objectively] bad. Meta made some decent arguments about it as well [though the differences between my argument and his are fairly extensive]. And you're right, it doesn't take a mathematician at all- I'm sorry for saying it did. I simply meant that I can't accept a premise without proper defense. 775

Serious / Re: Anti-natalism« on: December 30, 2014, 08:36:32 PM »I swear, I don't think anyone has stolen and appropriated my thoughts as well as Turkey has in this thread. It's actually scary. I came in here specifically to denounce Benatarian asymmetry, and that's already been done with outstanding efficiency here. The only thing I'd like to add is that Benatar is literally killing my ability to take his argument seriously as he states it. The second someone mentions the value of a "nonexistent person" they're tripping over language barriers and constructing oxymorons- the entire definition of an agent is the ability to be. *shrug* And I reviewed a great little paper about how coming into existence being a net harm is just silly. Written by some "Andy" or whatnot... might dig that up. But honestly, I've pretty much given up discussing antinatalism at this point. From my worldview [it's not the most conventional of worldviews, maybe I'll discuss it later] following the philosophy is just silly. Hyth v Gary is just frustrating to watch now, Pyrrho's leave is silly, RWTUG is completely insane, and it's just no longer a point of interest for me right now. And nah, I'll never accept "suffering = bad" no matter how many times the defenseless premise is restated. It's impossible to defend outside of circular arguments that end in "no, it just is." All axioms [prototheoretical or not] should be demonstrably defensible- that's just the rule I must operate under 777
