The Flood / Re: Godzilla vs. Kong

Well, the character storyline was ridiculous enough to make most bottom barrel Showa look intelligent, but it was paced quickly enough to ensure that it never got annoying. Plus, it never actively detracted from the action like it often did in KoTM.

The soundtrack was probably the most bizarrely disappointing thing about the movie after KoTM's music. Junkie XL's music for Snyder's Justice League [a four hour score which he made in just a few months] was very solid so I'm not really sure what happened here.

Idk, 2014 gets a bad rep but I still feel that it has the most to offer from the Western Godzilla movies on a moment to moment basis. That being said, GvK was still good fun- plus people can shut up about the ambiguous outcome of KKvG now that
Spoiler
my man beat Kong in both fights lmao

KSI > 2014 > GvK > KoTM

Imo imo imo

what is the best godzilla movie

There are several types of second best Godzilla movies. 1954 is without a doubt the strongest piece of media in the franchise and is one of the most smartly cynical movies I've ever seen. However, 1954's not a great movie to inform your opinion on the overall franchise; the majority of the series going forward is comprised of monsters beating the piss out of each other instead of solemn meditations.

If you find 1954 great and you only want to see serious takes (or if you're a fan of Evangelion), then the recently released Shin Godzilla is the next best thing. It's smart and chilling at times (though there's a reason it's not number one). Additionally, if dated effects were something keeping you from 1954, Shin Godzilla might bump up to your number one spot.

On the other hand, should you want to get crazy and watch some monsters make each other bleed, I'd recommend Godzilla vs. Biollante as the best one. It's not only really good as far as Godzilla movies go, but it also serves as an intro point for the Heisei series. These films share a pretty consistent continuity so if you find yourself enjoying it, you can keep moving and complete that continuity (which extends for the next five movies).

Thanks!

Breh where are Archive and the lore oldies these days, I need to catch up up up

Lord of Admirals left over an argument about Ronin being in Titanfall and Lemon killed himself because of Halo 5.
Yeah, I honestly decided to sit out Halo until it got over its weird superhero [Brian Reed] phase. The Infinite teaser brought me back here.

If you swing the way of ongoing manga, Houseki no Kuni is fantastic.

I don't think the anime would be for you; the adaptation is chock full of annoying "anime-isms" in terms of style and is CG animated too [though the last bit isn't a problem IMO]. The universe is fascinating though. The mechanics of the world deliver a coming of age plot so creatively it's jealousy inducing if you've ever tried to write a COA story.
can't say i care to start reading manga, much less ongoing ones—i enjoy the security of knowing that i'm about to jump into a completed story, and that i won't be sitting on a boat for 7 years with a bunch of other fans waiting for the next volume, and on top of that, i have enough "real" literature to catch up on before i start reading some random japanese comics

i appreciate the recommendation, though

are you recommending this because you think I in particular would like it, or are you recommending it just because you like it

Mainly the latter, but I recommended it specifically because the manga doesn't really adhere to the medium's tropes. And yeah, I can sympathize with your issues about ongoing series.

So how many rectangles are there? Or is this one of those problems where it doesn't matter the number 'cause the sum of both the colors' total can be achieved through deduction?

I'm not into math, but I kinda wanna know how to work this puzzle

2.5 is the easy answer since the areas both equal the same, thus one side must be 0.5 and the other 1, but surely there's more to it? If there isn't more to it, then this is literally grade school stuff. What am I missing?

I thin it's 2.5 too, but the hard part is making a general proof for the sides adding up to 2.5. The number of rectangles shouldn't matter. Or, if you can prove that there's only one arrangement, then it should [EDIT: Earlier I wrote that there are multiple arrangements of 2.5; I think there's a definitive way to prove that there's only one, my bad]

[I'll post my answer shortly, sorry for the delay]

I ended up with 5/2.
Same! I'll post my sketchy proof when I get the time to organize it from a buncha schizophrenic notes [I basically used height-width ratios to prove yellow must add to 0.5, and blue must add to 2.0]. How'd you come about it?

Sorry man, I honestly don't even understand what you're asking. I've been out of practice for a while and this abstract stuff was painful for me.
No need to apologize. Honestly, I still don't know if my answer to the problem makes sense/is correct either.

I'll also update the OP with a [hopefully] clearer breakdown later when I get time.

Let's divide a 1 x 1 square into rectangles. Each rectangle is colored blue or yellow. Additionally, the total blue area inside the square equal the total yellow area inside the square.

Now, the "number" of a rectangle varies on its color. In this problem, a blue rectangle's number is height/width, and a yellow rectangle's number is width/height.

So here's your task: Find the minimum value for the sum of all the rectangle numbers in the square.
