Gaming / Re: Halo: Broken Circle Excerpt
« on: October 27, 2014, 11:39:27 AM »
You know Anton, his idea of modern Sangheili was that they were the equivalent of the Broken Circle Sangheili. So when Mortal Dictata came out, I noticed the Kig-Yar (on multiple occasions) noted that the Elites were indoctrinated by the Prophets.

Anton refuted that by saying they were exaggerating because they despised them.

But you know, it made sense to me. Because if you have a self sustaining civilization capable of great feats that in 3,000 years has trouble making barns, some really serious shit went down.

"The Elites are blind, Arbiter! But I will make them see."

I haven't actually been in a debate with Anton given how much I keep forgetting to give a sh1t about Nu-Covie lore, but I always assumed that he was complaining about the very design choice of having them indoctrinated and not the logistics behind it. I mean, it makes a... sh1tton of sense?

Also, lol at Anton telling me the Kig-Yar were exaggerating when they said the Sangheili were indoctrinated in Mortal Dictata.

When did this happen? The conversation, I mean.

This might just end up being the last piece of genuinely good Covenant lore released for several years.

Technically you can, it's just rather difficult.

Anybody who doesn't believe in God is an idiot.
Anybody who doesn't believe that there's an invisible tea cup orbiting earth is an idiot.
Oh look it's this retarded argument again
You're only calling it that because it's valid.

Technically valid arguments mean nothing in argumentative circles.

Those who are seriously interested in artificial intelligence, and not just in the trendy pop-sci mindset afflicting society, should check out the work of Douglas Hofstadter, particular the book Gödel, Escher, Bach. A lot will go over your head, and that's okay, but he is an absolutely brilliant writer that manages to cleverly explain difficult concepts without taking away from the academic weight of his statements.

Thanks, I'm going to check it out.

Just a warning: it takes a couple hundred pages for him to actually get into artificial intelligence, but everything before it is necessary background info, and it's still really entertaining and informative.

The first part of the book was great though. He details logical puzzles in ways that even laymen can understand!

And maybe someday I'll be able to understand the entire book XD

I have a moral duty to refuse to read books electronically.

I will buy a paperback copy of the book. The internet is for news sources, journals and papers. Not books.

Bodies are just machines composed of flesh and blood instead of metal and circuitry. If something else can perform a task more efficiently, and I can easily replace what I have with that superior thing, then that's exactly what I'll do. I hear they're even working on ways to connect artificial limbs so the user can feel through them.

AIHT I literally love you

The body is equally as important as the mind.

That's like saying "our skeleton is equally as important as our ribcage."

The Flood / Re: Thoughts on Cybernetic Military Implements

The point to be made here is, when you look at the current state of the world, we aren't ready to start lobbing off body parts and replacing them. Even today, our technology is moving faster than we are. It's accelerating faster than we can naturally evolve. And that's the point. If we try to run before we walk, we're going to fall on our asses.

By the time something as fine tuned as cybernetics comes out at the level I mention, we'll be thousands of years behind them in terms of brain capacity to handle what comes with them.

I disagree. We're making great strides in the field, and I'm on the cyber side of pretty much every singularity/H+ related topic you can think of with regards to existential conflict.
