It was in fact made by the Russian Saber Interactive (who also worked on MCC). My guess is that it just wasn't making money and MS didn't care. The devs didn't know what they can do - the game dies. Yup. Why in the fuck would MS restrict it for Russia only is mind boggling - the whole point of F2P games is to get as wide as audience as possible - so unless you are literally fucking China - you should never restrict the F2P game to only your country. I have a striong suspicion that is what killed it Saber - can we like expand plis? MS - No, Russia only cuz we <3 Russia, trust me m8. Saber - We are not making much money, we cannot keep it going for long MS - oh is that so? I guess PC Halo games will never work, oh well. Cancelled.

Halo Online was 343, it just wasn't a console title which is why it was canned. It was the Halo 3 engine on PC which is what everyone was screaming they wanted for years. You're exactly right, it would've hindered Halo 5's potential sales so they made sure the west never got it. Halo 5 PC I heard is really good, but it's crippled to ensure it doesn't last long.
Would it be too far fetched to say that Halo Online got cancelled simply because MS and 343 knew it would at some point draw in too many players which would cause 343's Halo's to suffer?
