Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu is an overlooked gem worth trying out, and a personal favorite of mine
it's a weird combination of final fantasy and pokémon where you capture these magical bugs in the forest and fight stuff with them—but the coolest part is that you get to merge them together to make even stronger bugs, and they all look different, and there's a bajillion different weird things you can make
it has a pretty compelling story as far as JRPGs go, the music and atmosphere are orgasmic, and the OP and character designs were created by Studio Ghibli
the battles are fairly slow-paced and overly simplified, though, so don't expect fast or complex gameplay or anything

I'm just saying its there for a reason - to increase sales. Sometimes it works, other times (especially when the characters are of questionable age like in the OP) it feels out of place. And the animal part of me will be bias towards hot females.
