That's because it is a different country, ya dip. Texas actually never finished legislative reconstruction. It depends on whether or not you see the Civil War as just that, or as a revolution. I think the problem is everyone's excering a clone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
DC is clearly taking a more linear direction with this where everybody is going to be introduced through their association with Superman, and will get their spin off movies after they're established.
Superman is kind of going to be the main character of this franchise, whereas Marvel doesn't really have a main character.
