If that sounds boring and tedious to anyone, that's because it is.
HOWEVER it looks great on a resume, grad school app, and it also gives a chance to rub elbows with some very rich people and form relationships that will be useful in business down the line, if you ever need investors, partners, discounted or even pro bono law work, anything like that.
It's also very rewarding to give back to the community.
I've spent untold hundreds of hours doing charity work with Masonic groups and I don't regret it for an instant.

During meetings they conduct business which consists of the orchestration of the group, allocating funds to charity and projects meant to raise money for charity (gotta spend money to make money), and sometimes other cultural projects. However, this is only a small portion of the meeting. The rest is spent formally opening and closing the meeting through what is referred to as 'Secret Work'. Secret Work is just where they explain the symbolism of the way the room is laid out, i.e. the Master explains why he sits in the east. In the Order of DeMolay, a splinter group designed to provide support and paternal role models to boys with no fathers, the Master sits in the east to symbolize the morn of life, or the youth which shapes the future. The Senior Councilor, who traditionally inherits the position of Master after the current Master's retirement, sits in the west, representing the eve of life, symbolic of the fact that the SC is wiser and more prepared to take on the role of Master than any other, save the Master, or Past Master Councilors. Source: I'm a two time PMC, a Chevalier, a Knight of the Priory, former director of Commandry, and a Master Mason. Also an atheist, they really don't care if you lie about believing in a god.

It sucks because from a story standpoint Supergirl/Power Girl has always been one of my favorite superheroes. A tale of what it's like to play second fiddle to the most powerful being in existence.
