You're going to college to study nothing? Education in the US really is quite different.
You only do nothing for the first two years, the second two you have to commit to a major.

To study what?
It's my first year, so for now nothing. Although I'm planning on being a neuroscientist, and if that doesn't work out I'll head towards an engineering major. I'm also considering maybe joining the armed forces in order to help pay for graduate school, but I really have to talk to people about it first.

I haven't. I've had so many chances though that I've fucked up because I didn't know how I was supposed to talk to girls. By time I brightened up, I was already well into high school and everyone I would have accepted was already taken. But now I'm going into college and I have the best opportunity to start fresh.

So yeah, I'm a kissless virgin. But at least I have abs not flabs, and most the forum probably can't say that.

If it's Community College, it's boring as fuck. If it's a 4-year college, I have no clue what it's like.
Four year

Wealth inequality doesn't mean all that much, to be honest. Unless the top start buying the government - which they are.

But, after all, would you rather have a sixth of a small pizza, or a ninth of a big one?
I think you're trying to imply that having such a high fraction of wealth owned by such a small amount of people somehow increases wealth, but that's just not true. The only way to increase global wealth is by mining (or any other mean of collecting resources) or by inventing new technologies that allow the quality of life to maintain with a fewer resources (e.g. a computer chip that requires less copper). If your goal is to increase the quality of life for all people and not just the 1%, having the wealth distributed like that isn't helping.

That's most economists, to be honest. There's just a lot of them who disgaree on a lot of things. Economics isn't a science.
heh, you're telling me

Hue. The day one of those is found is the day I stop bothering to study economics.
There's probably economists out there who want the whole of society to benefit who wouldn't put an emphasis on one group of people.

Doesn't that come with the massive assumption that, in order for it to be wrong, racism has to be institutional?
Yeah, she's said on multiple occasions that racism is institutional. I don't know if she says that because she thinks that laws are racially biased or because there is a higher percentage of whites in office compared to their shared demographic. She doesn't seem to really care about economics or poverty, although she does describe herself as conservative when it comes to economics, so I don't think it has anything to do with how there are so many more minorities in poverty than whites. I don't even think she's ever even addressed that as a problem. It's all social problems for her.

I have three questions:
- Which economists do we listen to?
Good question. Probably people who are retired and do not benefit from certain market strategies to help eliminate bias. Scientific economists would be most preferable.

Quote
- How do you explain the global and dramatic reduction in violence throughout history? It would seem that a massive, one-world government would be prone to incredible instability and need to "section" itself, while giving the sections considerable autonomy.
The government type would probably have to be very adaptable and still allow for regional governments to set their own laws (much like the United States). And if does fail, people can fall back on their regional governments. If you have one government, you have more cooperation when it comes to dealing with problems. The main purpose of a one world government would be to increase efficiency (be that economic strategy or scientific research) and treat people more fairly.

Quote
- It may very well be true that scientists are not motivated by market forces when researching/inventing, but the market is the single best tool for innovation, which makes everybody wealthier. Do you deny the innovative powers of the market?
In order for scientists and engineers to research and invent, they need funding, and often times that can come from the private industry. It would also be wrong to say that there isn't a sizable amount of scientists and engineers who work mostly just for personal gain. My point isn't that the market doesn't help innovation, but that the market isn't solely responsible.

I think it's more to do with the fact that Jay is a SJW. She's racist and sexist, and then goes on to claim that you can't be racist against white people or sexist against men. It's the sheer hypocrisy of it; like she's covering her ears and shouting at us.

Also, since when did Door admit to hating Muslims? I haven't seen anything like that. (If he did, that's probably more to do with the fact that Muslims are one of the most hated minorities at the moment. If he were racist against blacks or Mexicans or Jews then very few people would be accepting of it (I'd hope)).
From how she's explained it to me, she says that because whites are in power, they can't be oppressed. Which is sort of a blanket statement considering there are white people who live in poverty.

I just find it unfair that people overly harass Jay for being racist but generally ignore all the other racist people on the forum (and it's probably because Jay is the only racist person against whites). Door has openly admitted to hating Muslims but he doesn't get any shit over it. But if he were to say that he openly hates white people, then everyone would start a fuss (people here clearly aren't concerned with racism, they're just in constant self defense mode).
